George Price Boyce And The Consolation Of Landscape, Julia Chandler L'Enfant

George Price Boyce (1826-1897) is little known today except by his diaries, which chronicle his association with the Pre-Raphaelite circle in London from 1851 to 1875. Yet in his own day Boyce was widely admired for his watercolor landscapes, and after 1864 was a leading member of the select Royal Water-Colour Society. His landscapes were thought to have a special, even eccentric quality, particularly his work from about 1859 to 1870, generally acknowledged to be his best.
Critics and art historians who take note of Boyce today almost always link him with the Pre-Raphaelite movement. This thesis, however, seeks to …

The paintings in this thesis project began with a study of various representational images, both personal and symbolic. It included the exploration of assorted media and different styles of execution in a search for imagery to represent the scope of my life experience. This search involved a method of working that excluded preconceived images. The original images evolved into an abstract state which alludes directly to the figurative and organic nature of the earlier work.

The purpose of the study, was to determine the importance of identified duties to the career success of a newly hired design/drafting employee aspiring to become a supervisor or manager as perceived by design/drafting managers and university professors. An opinionnaire was developed which consisted of 141 tasks which were grouped into 13 general duties. The 13 duties represented the job functions for design/drafting managers. The opinionnaire was validated utilizing a jury of experts consisting of eight design/drafting managers and five university professors. It was then mailed to the membership of the American Design Drafting Association (ADDA) who identified themselves as …

The works in this exhibition were selected from works completed over the past year . Examples included oil paintings and photographs. The exhibition consists of seventeen works - ten oil paintings and seven photographs. The inspiration for the theme was from ordinary life. I tried to experiment with different expressions and techniques in the subject matter of the exhibition.
The oil paintings portray landscapes in a traditional manner and abstraction with a strong overall emphasis on rich color schemes and value contrast.
The seven photographs were to appear simple and quiet. I have done some photography before entering graduate work. …
