Catalogues

The aim of this project was to design a wireless phone charger suitable for use in the hospitality industry.

Briefly the project involved the following: market research into competing products and companies, research into Induction (wireless) charging circuits and components, sourcing of circuits and components for prototyping, concept generation, sketching, drawing, rendered visuals, -testing of prototype parts (circuits), particularly for effectiveness of induction circuit through different materials and material thicknesses- refinement of chosen design, Final technical drawings for production of prototype, production of a working “mock-up”.

Traditional learning and teaching methods for creativity differ from those used in a scientific context. Although the creative process can benefit from a certain level of prescription and structural constraint - with time allocated to research, problem definition, conceptualisation and idea development - flexibility and fluidity are necessary for creative innovation. In contrast, the more linear and rigid pedagogies associated with science and engineering education facilitate efficient learning of subjects such as those based on software packages, manufacturing and materials theory or mechanics. This paper describes the development of a project which aims to establish constructive links between the learning …

80:80 was developed against the background of a changing work environment. Advances in technology meant that work became mobile, the breaking down of walls and cubicles created large open spaces allowing for a movement towards collaborative work and “New Ways of Working”.

80:80 is an office furniture system designed in this context, to provide a foundation for new, flexible ways of working. In particular, the delineators that define territory, such as legs, vertical supports, fixed side screens, were removed or minimised to create an uninterrupted worksurface span, allowing for a flexible space where users can annex as much space as …
