Art Of Aging – A Portraiture Study, Alaina Mann

Theses/Capstones/Creative Projects

The process of aging can be viewed through different lenses within our society. In the past, scientists and medical professionals performed various studies to better understand and analyze different facets of aging, medicine, and health in general. Historically the arts have reflected multiple aspects of medicine and treatments while more recently, the arts have been used in a research capacity to provide different ways to represent illness, suffering, and care. This study used art-based research methods and portraiture to gather qualitative observations on the older populations within our community. Data collected included drawings, a field journal, and interviews. This study …

An artist book is an art object that expressly utilizes the linear, time-based form of a book in a way that will best serve the artist’s intentions. The contents of this 16 page book are an expansion of the ideas and themes in my BFA thesis show. This will include original writing, drawings, watercolor paintings, prints, and collaged elements that will inform each other artistically. The title of this art book refers to the circumstances and ideas that inform my sense of self-perception, and how I relate to others.

Artificial: A Study On The Use Of Artificial Intelligence In Art, Hayden Ernst

Theses/Capstones/Creative Projects

In the past three to five years there have been significant improvements made in AI due to improvements in computing capacity, the collection and use of big data, and an increase in public interest and funding for research. Programs such as ChatGPT, DALL•E, and Midjourney have also gained tremendous popularity in a relatively short amount of time. This led me to this project in which I aimed to gain a deeper understanding of these art generator AI and where they fit into art as a whole. An Exploration Of Pattern: British Wildflowers, Megan Quinn

Theses/Capstones/Creative Projects

For this creative project I decided to focus on illustration and design, displaying the skills I have picked up over my academic journey.

The natural world is all around us and throughout history, in both written and visual methods of communication, organic patterns based in nature have played a large part in how we as individuals interpret and interact with the world. Organic material is at the forefront of our minds as we navigate through the challenges that life throws at us, and for me, I wanted to celebrate this through my own artistic journey. The natural world for me …

The Healing Properties Of Interactive Art: Creating A Proposal For Art Within A Hospital Environment, Alexandra Chase May 2020

The Healing Properties Of Interactive Art: Creating A Proposal For Art Within A Hospital Environment, Alexandra Chase

Theses/Capstones/Creative Projects

The consumption of art and interaction with it can be beneficial to individuals in many different ways. Play and exploration engage the mind and can have positive effects, no matter how small. Within a medical setting, this type of interactive art can promote healing within patients by engaging their bodies and minds. With these ideas in mind, the Children’s Hospital and Medical Center (CHMC) put out a call for an interactive sculpture piece to be created for their upcoming building expansion. My piece, Garden Lanterns, was then conceptualized in order to fulfill their requirements and embrace the idea of providing …

Crystal & Gem: A Magazine Concept For The Millennial Audience, Sophie Ford May 2018

Crystal & Gem: A Magazine Concept For The Millennial Audience, Sophie Ford

Theses/Capstones/Creative Projects

Crystal & Gem magazine aims to fill a gap in the market for fashionable, educated, millennial-aged women with an interest in the geology and mythology of crystals and gemstones. Many magazines with a scientific or historic scope find themselves in either the general interest section of magazine stands, or in some cases even the men’s interest magazine stands. It is a common misconception that women cannot be interested in both fashion and science, so this magazine exists as an antithesis to that idea.

This work was a culmination of four graphic design courses at UNO, during which time I further …
