In recent years, there has been a need for design that contributes to "futuring" as Tony Fry points out. The emergence of educational programs that promote futuring, such as transition design seminars at Carnegie Mellon University, is beginning to be observed globally. Yet their business applications have not been fully designed in many cases, and effective design education on defuturing/futuring is urgently needed. The Designer's Role In Fashion System Transitions: A Critical Review Of Transition Design, Moe Sakaue, Daijiro Mizuno, Kazutoshi Tsuda

Based on the literature review, this paper discusses the role of designers in organizing designs that intervene and facilitate transitions in the fashion system. Four interventions are identified from the literature review and discussed in detail concerning multi-stakeholder collaboration and textile fashion design. A critical analysis of designers and the design process in production reveals that the place and time of design activity and experience are expanding. However, there needs to be more research that designs projects and analyzes their long-term outcomes. Finally, this paper makes recommendations regarding the role of designers in fashion system transitions. Further research on design …
