Este estudio trata sobre el diseño decorativo e iconográfico textil y vestimentario tradicional de los pueblos de San Pablo, de Tinta y de Marangani de la provincia de Canchis (Cuzco, Perú). El sistema vestimentario indígena tradicional de estos pueblos está conformado por piezas vestimentarias tejidas, unkuña y poncho, que permiten identificar el grupo étnico y el lugar de procedencia de los portadores. The Necropolis of Wari Kayan and other tombs of the Paracas Necropolis mortuary tradition present an astonishing diversity of textile styles, and an even greater diversity of imagery. More than 100 different motifs can be distinguished and tracked among the documented mortuary contexts. While is it not likely that our sample of 45 mummy bundles includes all important variants of any particular motif, in many cases it is possible to propose a sequence of reinterpretations of a key icon. By documenting the known assemblage of images and artifacts we can perceive what icons and styles are predominant, recurrent or unusual. …

Entre los recientes estudios sobre textiles Andinos, comienza a ser frecuente encontrar quienes se dedican a describir además de las técnicas, sus iconografías. Como eran sociedades ágrafas, nos hace pensar que con aquellas imágenes nos quisieron dejar su historia y pensamiento. En el caso de Mesoamérica, se podría decir lo mismo de las técnicas e imágenes, pero en este caso, las sociedades que los tejieron sí tenían manera de comunicarse a través de sus lenguajes escritos. A wooden statuette clad in small-scale garments made from a Wari style tie-dyed textile joined the collections of the City of Liverpool Public Museum (now National Museums Liverpool) in 1951 along with other items distributed by the trustees of the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum. This article discusses Wari style tie-dyed tunics as part of an ensemble of garments. It explores the character of the Wari period textile (c. The World On A Whorl: Considerations On Aztec Spindle Whorl Iconography, Jesper Nielsen

An unpublished collection of Aztec (Late Postclassic central Mexico, ca. 1400-1520) spindle whorls (totaling 33 items) with rich iconographic embellishment is the focus of this paper, which will discuss a set of recurring iconographic themes, such as the ’sun disk’, ’eagles’, ’jade disks or chalchihuites’ and ’cloud-scrolls’, on the whorls. Previous treatments of spindle whorl imagery have tended to regard such motifs merely as decoration, but here I suggest that the repertoire at hand indicate a limited scope of motifs that share some cosmological and religious significance. In a broader perspective these observations point to the potential mythological underpinnings of …
