Framing The Change(S) In Interaction Design, Mauro Attilio Ceconello, Tommaso Elli, Sangwon Lee, Panos Markopoulos, Margherita Pillan

IASDR Conference Series

The discipline of interaction design is witnessing a growing diversification of forms of interactions and the emergence of novel design guidelines. In relation to the contributions presented in the Changing Interactions track of IASDR202 we summarize some of the most pressing challenges that the discipline is currently facing. The discussed topics include the following ones. Conversational and intelligent agents designed to act in several different areas that include automotive and the realm of more than human. Socio-technical systems that respond to human diversity, implementing meaningful experiences that go beyond efficiency and automation. The integration of artificial intelligence in everyday activities …

This paper presents material-driven exploration at the intersection between transforming rigid materials by cutting techniques and applying conductive substrates to the transformed material sheet. Kirisense is a simple design technique that adds deformability and interactive capability to thick and rigid prototyping materials such as plywood and chipboard. Our investigation identified six cutting patterns with variable parameters that influence the flexible and bendable behaviors generated and encoded them as a design editor to assist designers. We introduce a step-by-step process of augmenting rigid materials by combining them with a conductive substrate (carbon- or nickel- paint or spray) and applying a custom …

Recent years have shown a remarkable advancement in making neural technologies accessible, transcending the confines of clinical settings, with companies introducing neural hardware once limited to specialized environments. Concurrently, scientific research has made significant strides in demonstrating the effectiveness of neurofeedback as a closed-loop system, enabling individuals to regulate neural signals consciously. While studies focus on individual-based learning, emerging evidence suggests that NF can facilitate neural synchronicity among multiple individuals. To optimize NF and achieve favorable neuro-behavioral outcomes, recent investigations propose integration of immersive interfaces that provide a holistic and meaningful learning experience. However, a disconnect between scientists and designers …
