This thesis presents a series of original jewelry and hand-held art objects which aesthetically relate to each other in a controlled gallery environment. The form of the objects is based on box-shapes, while the content comments on and pokes fun at our present society. The objects are made of various combinations of sterling silver, brass, copper, aluminum, plexiglass, fabric. and wood. Some of the objects use photographs from private and magazine sources. All of the objects are intended as Funk-art pieces.

The review of literature pertinent to the study consisted of a presentation of the visual and philosophical content in the work of Rico Lebrun and Ernest Trova, and an analysis of the work of the candidate as influenced by these artists.

The purpose of this paper was to clarify the significance of jewelry by showing it to be like a language, both in past history and today. Jewelry is divided into two general divisions, that mass produced industrially at a relatively low cost and that individually-produced by craftsmen at considerable expense. It was not the intention of this paper to separate the two, merely to explore the language of jewelry through the medium of symbols.A
