A Taste Of Home, Mia Schneider Dec 2023

A Taste Of Home, Mia Schneider

Graphic Communication

The focus of my GrC 462 project is to preserve and celebrate my family's cherished recipes passed down through generations by transforming a collection of notecards into a comprehensive Holiday cookbook.

This cookbook will serve as a modern and lasting alternative to the fragile notecards, providing a tangible and shareable heirloom for future generations to enjoy and carry forward the rich culinary traditions of my family.

Chez Henri Cookbook Redesign, Izzy Kelly Jun 2022

Chez Henri Cookbook Redesign, Izzy Kelly

Graphic Communication

Chez Henri is a redesigned version of a cookbook that Bonnie Henry, my grandmother, has curated over the past 50 years. The original book was entitled “A Collection of Recipes From Friends and Family”, but I decided to rename it to “Chez Henri”, a phrase that was written on a sign outside of her home for almost 20 years. Bonnie Henry is an excellent cook and her recipes include many salads, soups, entrees, and dishes that most people don’t see everyday. Chez Henri contains photography that depicts these recipes, notes from the chef, and clear cut instructions that are easy …

The Queer Dictionary, Mia Lew Jun 2022

The Queer Dictionary, Mia Lew

Graphic Communication

With the government continually obstructing queer education in public schools, it becomes harder and harder for queer people to understand themselves than in turn, have the tools to explain what they are going through to others. This is a problem but in turn an opportunity. While there are queer literature and children’s books out there, they typically only encompass one story or one view on queerness. Thus, this project's main goal is to encompass queerness as a whole by using as many LGBTQ+ words as possible, people's stories under each word, historical graphics, highlights on the internationality of queerness, pronoun …

Cal Poly Collegiate Cookbook, Grace C. Boyle Mar 2022

Cal Poly Collegiate Cookbook, Grace C. Boyle

Graphic Communication

In this project, I developed and design a cookbook for Cal Poly students to teach techniques and highlight experiences of exceptional local cuisine within Slo county. Cooking in college is usually viewed as either a daunting task or a stress-relieving activity. Wherever each individual may fall on that spectrum, I feel passionate that there is a need for an educational cookbook tailored specifically to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo students.

This opportunity for students who are competent chefs will serve as an extension of techniques with the immersion of local Slo food experiences that can broaden their cooking pallet and …

Potted Pals: A Coffee Table Book, Morgan E. Glazebrook Dec 2021

Potted Pals: A Coffee Table Book, Morgan E. Glazebrook

Graphic Communication

The purpose of this project for GrC 462 is to design and produce an image and information heavy coffee table book on the topic of houseplants. This book will not only include gorgeous photography sourced from the Internet and self shot by me, but all the information one could need to learn how to care for each plant presented in the book. Throughout the quarter, I documented my process and the steps I took in order to complete the entire project on time.

Print Foundation: Student Guide To Graphic Communication, Yeyoung Kim Jun 2021

Print Foundation: Student Guide To Graphic Communication, Yeyoung Kim

Graphic Communication

This book covers the foundation of print technologies and information related to graphic communication and aims to resolve the absence of the graphic communication textbook for beginners. While there are plenty of professional and technical resources for students, it can be challenging to read professional books without prior knowledge on the subject. This book will also clarify the difference between the Graphic Communication major and the Graphic Design major at Cal Poly SLO.

The project began with the student survey on what they would want to be included in the introductory textbook and some of their additional suggestions were followed. …

Printed Books Versus Digital Books, Mikayla Nicole Byars Jun 2015

Printed Books Versus Digital Books, Mikayla Nicole Byars

Graphic Communication

The purpose of this study was to determine whether college aged students prefer to read from printed books or e-books when reading for pleasure and for school. Many factors go into the decision of which platform readers choose to read from such as cost, portability, durability, reading conditions, and lifetime. It is valuable to determine what drives consumers to be making these choices.
