My objectives in writing this paper were to research selected watercolorists whose work I admire and whose work bears a relationship to my own, and to make a comparative analysis. My intention in painting and drawing is to demonstrate luminous effects in an atmospheric field.

In painting, attention is directed to various color impressions. A color may be perceived as iridescent, metallic, filmy, voluminous, hard, etc. Also, an overall tinted atmosphere establishes a misty field in which these color impressions are displayed. A systematically prepared palette of adjusted colors is then formed. The idea is a planned color effect transforming design elements.

In drawing, light and dark contrast control sets the illumination character. Various graphitic media are used to render atmospheric perspective and delineate objects in space. Impressions of texture, …
