A Selection Of Artists' Books From Murray Library's Special Collections, Murray Library
Friends of Murray Library
Visually exciting and intellectually provocative, artists' books push to the outermost limits our assumed definition of what a book is, and turn the practice of reading into a novel experience. Simply defined, artists' books are a hybrid art form in which books and art intersect. Many of the over 100 artists' books in Murray Library's collection are the work of well-known book artists, including works by Messiah College art faculty. Friends funds new acquisitions to the collection each year, enhancing its use as an interdisciplinary teaching resource.

Friends of Murray Library
The Ruth E. Engle Memorial Collection of Children's Book Illustration celebrates the art we first met as children and recalls our enchantment with the magical pairing of story and picture. Libraries have traditionally collected and displayed art and illustration, particularly the latter because of its affinity to literature. With this expanding collection of original artworks created by award-winning illustrators from around the world, Murray Library embraces that tradition. In addition to supporting the education and art curriculum, the Engle Memorial Collection inspires student and faculty research and is an ideal destination for field trips by students from area schools.

Undergraduate Research Awards
An investigation into the identity of the artists who created the images in the McVitty Book of Hours, a manuscript contained in Hollins University's special collections. The author posits that the marginal images were created by the Master of Geneva Latini, while the main images are the work of a separate, still unknown illuminator. The PDF includes the author's entry submission essay for the 2012 Undergraduate Research Awards.
