Voz Alta: The Sound Of A Collective Memory, Sarah E. Kleinman

Voz Alta is a participatory, voice-activated public light installation designed by Rafael Lozano-Hemmer as a memorial for the Tlatelolco massacre, which occurred on October 2, 1968 in the Plaza de las Tres Culturas in Tlatelolco, Mexico. In the Plaza, Lozano-Hemmer has synchronized a megaphone with a 10 kW Xenon robotic searchlight. As each participant speaks into the megaphone, the searchlight shines to the uppermost floor of the towering Centro Cultural Tlatelolco (CCT) building where three additional searchlights instantaneously strobe, dim, and brighten, illuminating the nocturnal landscape in horizontally fixed, tangential beams. Autobiographical sketch by Juliette Desport, Nashville, Tennessee, giving the history of the Desport family; information about paintings donated to the Kentucky Museum, Bowling Green, Kentucky; educational pursuits; and travel. Her father, Alphonse, was an artist who resided in Bowling Green from 1893-1905. Includes letters, 1969-1970 (3), of Miss Desport.

Correspondence, account books, receipts, sermons, drawings, and diaries of the Venable family of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, chiefly John Wesley Venable, Sr. and his wife Fannie and son John, Jr. Of particular interest is an 1839-1839 travel journal kept by John, Sr. while in Florida. Also includes John, Sr.’s sermons and sermon preparation material as well as thirty-nine small diaries documenting his career as an Episcopal priest in Versailles and Hopkinsville. Includes one of John, Sr.’s art sketch books.
