Letters of artist Joseph Dudley Downing to Riley Handy, Kentucky Museum, WKU, regarding an exhibition of his work that opened at the museum on 28 March 1993. Downing discusses the content of the exhibition, associated printed matter and the return of unsold items, and provides background on the works “Isidore’s Door,” “Michael’s Door,” “The Window of Arthemise Fougerousse” and “The Chicken Bones.” Includes an unidentifed commentary on some of his paintings, and a list of 11 works to be exhibited.

Porter, Lexington, Kentucky, related to Porter’s grandfather William Backus. A stonecutter, Backus did the work on the columns and capstones of the Warren County courthouse and the stone arch on the north side of Fountain Square in downtown Bowling Green.
