A website could be created with the latest technology, but after a few years it will still need to be updated. This is what happened to Swanton Health Care and Retirement Center’s website. This project is designed to remedy the problem by creating an entirely new website with updated content, images, and interactive features to bring Swanton Health Care’s online presence back to life.

Strange Bodies: Hybrid, Text, And The Human Form. Prints From The Sheldon Museum Of Art, Alison G. Stewart , Editor
Zea E-Books Collection
Catalogue for the Sheldon Museum of Art’s exhibition “Strange Bodies: Hybrid, Text, and the Human Form," selected and curated by Professor Alison Stewart’s “History of Prints: New Media of the Renaissance” class during the fall semester of 2016 in the School of Art, Art History, & Design at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Each of the eleven prints offers a different understanding or take on the body. Some are grounded in the physical and social aspects of humanity, while others present the body as a site for fantastic imagination and performance. Still others reference the printed page as a “body.” Whether …
Inner Beauty, Kayla Darbyshire
Inner Beauty, Kayla Darbyshire
The STEAM Journal
The artist references images captured by electron microscope photography of Dopamine, DNA, and the process of Mitosis (specifically occurring in the human body). Through the use of photoshop the artist was able to manipulate the images of Dopamine, DNA, and Mitosis to create low polygonal artwork. The artist created 15,000-30,000 individual triangles, piecing them together using photoshop to create the images that they were referencing. The body is an amazing spectacle rarely looked at from within by artists. Many find beauty on the surface of the body, but when explored further, the body has much more to offer. The artist …

This paper describes and reflects upon a computational design and digital fabrication research project that was developed and implemented over 2014-2015, with subsequent development continuing for applications at present. The aim of the research was to develop methods of modelling, analysis, and fabrication that facilitate integrative approaches to architectural design and construction. In this context, the development of material prototypes, digital simulations, and parametric frameworks were pursued in parallel in order to inform and reform successive iterations throughout the process, leading to a refined workflow for engineering, production, and speculation upon future directions of the work.

Creating A Successful Wayfinding System: Lessons Learned From Springfield, Massachusetts, Yanhua Lu
Landscape Architecture & Regional Planning Masters Projects
The masters project presents findings from recent work the author completed related to wayfinding, and wayfinding systems. This work began as part of a graduate urban design studio, followed by work as a research assistant at the UMass Design Center in Springfield, on a new “demonstration” wayfinding system installed in Springfield, Massachusetts. The wayfinding project was done in association with the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission and the Springfield Office of Planning and Community Development, was implemented with the main goals of improving public health by encouraging more people to walk.
Wayfinding systems are increasingly seen as an important part of …

The Influence Of Raja Ravi Varma’S Mythological Subjects In Popular Art, Rachel Cooksey
The Influence Of Raja Ravi Varma’S Mythological Subjects In Popular Art, Rachel Cooksey
Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection
This paper will examine the aesthetic qualities that Raja Ravi Varma helped to introduce to mythological paintings and then to popular devotional prints with the Ravi Varma Press, as well as the influence of the aesthetic to other areas of visual culture in India. Prior to the 1993 retrospective exhibition in New Delhi on Raja Ravi Varma, little was known about his impact on the calendar prints of today. By tracing the rise of academic realism in late 19th and early 20th century India and Ravi Varma’s role within it, I gained a clearer understanding of the degree …

Talking Walls: Freeing Art In Bali, Indonesia, Lila Chu
Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection
In some ways Bali’s street art manifests everywhere, in the form of abundant banten, decorations for Galungan and Kuningan, shrines, temples, ornaments, and the black and white checkered cloth draped over scared statues, rocks, and banyan trees. This aesthetic pleasure moves beyond the sacred, and into the street—peering out among Bali’s intricate ornaments and decorations. Declarations of Bali Tolak Reklamasi, and images of a Balinese woman sporting a gas mask circulate Bali’s cityscapes, along with other marks, writings, and murals finding homes on grey walls.

Higher Education is often known for a certain type of learning experience in the classroom. Students expect thick books and in many areas of study, the Socratic method, but generally little in the way of visual aids. Students in other areas of study, including K-12, are increasingly benefiting from their educators using infographics in the classroom. The potential uses in higher education range from giving your course syllabus a facelift, to illustrating facts visually, and even to teaching students to create their own infographics as a practice-ready skill. This session will quickly explore why today’s students are drawn to visuals …

Testing The Viability Of A 3d Workflow Using Only Adobe Creative Cloud, Matthew D. Oakes
Graphic Communication
To determine whether or not a design team or individual designer can create 3D prototypes and the subsequent finished product in a more economically sound and timely manner by purchasing and utilizing Adobe Creative Cloud applications as opposed to the standard workflow that has been established in the past 20-25 years.
A 15-question qualitative survey was submitted to twenty (20) 3D product designers/engineers that currently work in the established industry. Questions were asked to determine what the standard industry professionals are using in their 3D design workflows and if they are open to newer methods that are becoming available through …

Findings – The research findings indicate that packaging is a great influencer for consumers and the synergy of consumers with companies can be a catalyst for the product design process resulting in package designs, which engage potential customers and drive …
