The history of mural arts cites the use of public images in visualizing global and local challenges and triumphs. From the prehistoric cave art in Lascaux Grotttoes, France to the magnificent works of Italian Renaissance artists, murals have transformed the art world by visually conveying social values, events, and transitions of historical times. Throughout the world, artists highlight inequality, invoke change, and give a voice to the voiceless through their images.
