The author provides a biographical summary of her mother and describes her early forays into quilt making. Jarvis also describes the social aspects of quilting, patterns as a reflection of certain lifestyles, the process of quilt construction, and the materials necessary to complete the final product. Included in the paper are color photographs of various quilting styles along with samples of quilting handiwork.
