Faux: An Overview Of Animal Exploitation In The Fashion Industry, Karol Christian S. Moralde May 2022

Faux: An Overview Of Animal Exploitation In The Fashion Industry, Karol Christian S. Moralde

DLSU Senior High School Research Congress

The use of animals in clothing is a practice that has always been part of human civilization. Although originally used as a way to warm and clothe bodies, animal products, such as fur, leather, and feather, have transcended their original practical purposes and have become both a status symbol and an integral aesthetic code in fashion. The prominent use of animal products in fashion has not only led to the violation of animal rights but has also directly contributed to the damage to our environments and the well-being of workers. Under a capitalistic system, the commodification of animals, the environment, …

Renaissance Fashion Of England And Italy, Alexis Litteken

2022 Student Academic Showcase

This research project is aimed at exploring the popular fashion and beauty styles of Renaissance-era England and Italy, two nations that held immense power both politically and socially during the period. Examining the influences behind contemporary trends of the Renaissance can aid in the understanding of what people were like, allowing a look into beliefs, activities, or messages a person might convey through their clothing. From the Medici family to a more middle-class family, this project will explore how a nation’s fashion can speak to more than just current style, but to the ideological, political, and societal movements being experienced.

Finally, they analyze the current state of the fashion world and discuss their plan of action.

Wild Apparel: A Sustainable Clothing Line, Jogvan Andreas A. Jacobsen

Showcase of Undergraduate Research and Creative Endeavors (SOURCE)

The fashion industry has increasingly contributed to environmental waste through production and distrubution of crops, fibers, and garments that are dumped every day, polluting our water, soil, and air. My sustainable clothing line does the opposite, with clothes and packages built from recycled materials. With Wild Apparel, I will create casual streetware clothes with a subconcsious focus on being sustainable, contributing to bettering our earth, although not in a protesting or reprimanding way. The clothes are made from recycled plastic, driven by solar powered machines and fair wages to the employees. Wild Apparel will be working with organizations around the …

Is Fast Fashion A Concern Of The Everyday Teen?, Mariah N. Cruz May 2017

Is Fast Fashion A Concern Of The Everyday Teen?, Mariah N. Cruz

Student Research Symposium

The phrase “fast fashion” refers to getting clothes at extremely low costs to keep up with the newest fashion trends. When we purchase items, we don’t put much thought into where our clothing goes after we “get rid” of them. The saying “Out of sight, out of mind” is apparent when it comes down to consumers and letting go of old clothes. Our only concern as consumers is the next big thing. The fashion industry has drastically changed over the past two decades and trends play a huge role in this push for mass production. We as a society are …
