This study was initiated as a result of a need that became apparent in two industrial arts seminars at Central Washington State College. Studies reveal that industrial arts teachers use principles, laws, and applications of mathematics and science daily, but these are seldom recognized and made meaningful to the students. As a result of this study industrial arts teachers may see a way to use this material to initiate similar situations in their teaching.

This paper will attempt to give the art teacher, art student, or craftsman a reliable guide to the methods, techniques, processes, problems and possibilities involved in producing a piece of cast jewelry by the lost-wax, or cire-perdu., method. None of the available guides to lost-wax casting give sufficient depth of technique, methods, or use of tools for the craftsman or teacher who may wish to improvise a casting experience in the classroom by the gravity-steam method. It was the purpose of this study to (1) determine the process that is necessary for dye formation in a colored negative; (2) to investigate the process of .making a color print; (3) to evaluate a color print in regard to density and color balance; and (4) to enable one to correct the color balance of a colored print.
