Finding aid only for Folklife Archives Collection FA 747. This collection contains materials relating to a wide array of folklife subjects collected by folklorist Bob Gates for the Kentucky Folklife Program. The majority of the subjects include ethnic or cultural groups, but there is also various information relating to specific arts or traditions. The materials within the folders are mostly articles or copies of articles. Most folders contain information that relates directly to Kentucky, but some are about the topic more in general terms. Files are arranged by subject.

Material collected by Theresa Osborne about an event called “Country Fair Day” held at the Kentucky Coal Mining Museum, Benham, Kentucky, featuring presentations about material culture. Also includes a paper focusing on local material culture and foodways and a small collection of interviews documenting recollections of Kentucky residents. This project was completed for a folk studies class at Western Kentucky University.

Finding aid only for Folklife Archives Project 514. Collection consists of short interviews conducted by Mackenzi Johnson with Kenneth Nixon about folk customs and foodways, two of Johnson’s young cousins about children’s rhyming and clap games, an informal interview with Charita Swann, as well as discussions of Native American culture and life with Arigon Starr and Gay Wapecome. Also includes a performance by Arigon Starr at Bluebird Café in Nashville, Tennessee. This project was completed for a folk studies class at Western Kentucky University.

Included are interviews with four informants about family and personal narratives and ghost stories; photographs of the 2004 Kentucky American Saddlebred Pleasure Horse Association’s State Championship in Shelbyville, Kentucky; and photos documenting material culture in Bowling Green and Shelbyville, Kentucky.
