At the request of Arredondo, Zepeda, & Brunz, LLC (ABZ), and on behalf of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Tyler District, SWCA Environmental Consultants (SWCA) conducted an intensive cultural resources survey of proposed improvements (i.e., widening the existing two-lane road) to approximately 23,232.08 linear feet (4.4 miles) of Farm-to-Market Road (FM) 16 from 4.0 miles west of FM 849 east to U.S. Highway 69 (US 69) in Lindale, Smith County, Texas (CSJ: 0522-04-032). In October 2015 Deep East Texas Archaeological Consultants (DETAC) conducted a cultural resource management survey for the City of Tyler, Texas of three tracts totaling 57 hectares (141 acres) at the east end of CR 2133 west of the Lake Tyler West for timber thinning operations. The pedestrian survey was conducted under Texas Antiquities Permit #7376 in compliance with the Antiquities Code of Texas. The visual examination of the tracts found two clearings with debris, a segment of South Hillcreek Road, and three segments of a logging road. No artifacts were collected. Perennial Environmental Services, LLC (Perennial), on behalf of Gulf South Pipeline Company, LP (Gulf South), a subsidiary of Boardwalk Pipeline Partners, LP (Boardwalk), conducted an intensive cultural resources survey of the proposed Index 1-36 Replacement and Relocation Project (Project) located approximately 2.2 miles (mi) (3.5 kilometers [km]) northwest of Lindale in Smith County, Texas. The Project involves the replacement of approximately 930.0 feet (ft) (283.5 meters [m]) of 6-inch natural gas pipeline along Gulf South’s existing Index 1-36 pipeline via Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD). In July 2014 Deep East Texas Archaeological Consultants (DETAC) conducted a cultural resource management survey of the proposed Lindale Community Park with National Recreational Trails Funds administered by Texas Parks and Wildlife. The initial phase of park development is a cement walking trail, trail side amenities, and three parking areas; however, future development will impact a majority of the park property; therefore, the entire property (9.6 hectare (23.6 acres)) was surveyed. This report puts on record the collection of 34 ancestral Caddo vessels held by the Smith County Historical Museum (SCHM) in Tyler, Texas. Most of the collection was donated to the SCHM in 2013, but several were also donated in 1985 (Carol Kehl, April 2014 personal communication).

Deep East Texas Archaeological Consultants (DETAC) conducted a cultural resource management survey for the City of Tyler, Texas of approximately 104.6 hectares (258.5 acres) in four tracts of Forest Stewardship Area 1 around Lake Tyler East. Timber will be thinned in the project area and hauled off the property. The pedestrian survey was conducted with a combination of visual examination in floodplains and shovel testing across upland ridges. A total of 232 shovel tests were excavated across the shovel tested areas. No new archaeological sites were recorded, but one isolated find was found in Tract 3 and a road cut …

PBS&J, an Atkins company, was contracted by the North East Texas Regional Mobility Authority to conduct National Register of Historic Places eligibility testing of site 41SM385, a prehistoric campsite on a small rise above the floodplain of Indian Creek in western Smith County, Texas. Testing investigations were conducted during March and September 2009. The site was subjected to a systematic program of shovel testing, mechanical trenching, and hand excavation in an effort to identify cultural features or living surfaces and optimize recovery of diagnostic faunal, floral, and artifactual remains.

The recovered cultural artifacts indicate that site 41SM385 represents a probable …

In December 1998, TxDOT archeologists conducted an archeological survey for the proposed expansion of the walking and bicycle facility at Rose Rudman Park in Tyler, Texas. One previously unrecorded archeological site (41SM231) was recorded within the ca. 10-m wide trail corridor. In March 1999, TxDOT archeologists excavated two contiguous 1-x-1 -m test units at the site. Ninety-eight aboriginal ceramic sherds were recovered from test units and shovel tests. Recovered lithics include only a single edge-modified flake and a few pieces of debitage. No burned rock features, feature stains, postmolds, or datable remains were identified.

Site 41SM203 is a prehistoric campsite situated along the southwestern outskirts of the city of Tyler, Smith County, Texas. The site occupies the apex and lower slopes of a north-south trending ridge that runs for several miles. The lower part of the site lies relatively near springs located along the headwaters of Butler Creek. These springs or similar ones are thought to have been a major attraction of this locale, but significant cultural deposits were not found near them or in any part of the site subject to the investigation. The cultural materials that were found indicate sporadic and nonintensive …
