Reluctant Warriors And The Federalist Resurgence In New York, 1808-1815, Harvey Strum

Harvey Strum details the tumultuous political environment in New York in the events leading up to and during the War of 1812. The main struggle was between the dominant Republican party, and a resurgent Federalist party. The Republicans wanted war with Britain and an embargo on trade with Canada, while the Federalists wanted to preserve the trade that was so crucial to the economic well-being of New York.
