Slashes, Dashes, Points, And Squares: The Development Of Musical Notation, Carolyn S. Gorog
Slashes, Dashes, Points, And Squares: The Development Of Musical Notation, Carolyn S. Gorog
The Research and Scholarship Symposium (2013-2019)
The development of musical notation has long been a popular topic of discussion among musicologists. All cultures in the world have music and different cultures had methods of notating music. The purpose of the research was to trace the development of music notation and to see if the modern methods of notation are superior to the older methods. The development of music notation in western music was closely tied to the church and the Gregorian chant. Early neumes resembled points and slashes, which developed into squares when the staff stated to develop. The first staff was only four lines where …

Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) - Papers
This paper demonstrates how engaging in the development of MOOCs produces benefits beyond student learning and reputational benefits to the institution. The Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security (ANCORS), a University of Wollongong (UOW) specialist centre in ocean law and policy research, developed a MOOC as a first step towards a fully online Masters program, despite the team's limited experience with online teaching technologies. This small scale pilot suggests that engagement in the development of MOOCs supports not only staff skills' development, but also stimulates capacity-building - both within the academic unit and within the broader institution - …
Cedarville University: Defining Legacies, Barbara L. Loach
Cedarville University: Defining Legacies, Barbara L. Loach
Faculty Books
Cedarville University’s 125th anniversary in 2012 provided an appropriate moment to look back and remember how God has led so many wonderful people to this place and how His hand has guided and kept us over all these years. As the university continues to grow and change, many individuals new to the campus—students, administrators, faculty and staff members alike—may not be aware of all the contributions of those who preceded them. In order to capture those lives before they are lost to history, Dr. Loach set out to record the stories behind some of the faces and names long …

The Coordinators Leading and Advancing Sessional Staff (CLASS) project, as it became known, explored a leadership capacity development framework that included targeted professional development as a means of improving academic leadership and management of sessional teaching teams. There were four partner universities: the University of Wollongong (lead), the University of Technology, Sydney, the University of Western Sydney and the Australian Catholic University. This report presents the details and findings from a two-year ALTC leadership project to enhance the quality of teaching through the development of subject coordinators' leadership capacity in four institutions. Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) - Papers
Higher Education institutions face a challenge: how to transform traditional learning and teaching to create enhanced learning for current digital age students. In some universities this challenge is acute - particularly in those Universities that focus on blended and flexible learning (BFL), and distance education (DE) approaches. Many universities have emphasised the development of leadership capacity. From 2008 to 2011, utlising a partnership research grant funded by DEHub, Charles Sturt University and Massey University studied their approaches to fostering change in blended and flexible learning and DE. The study research question was: What do the strategies and activities designed to …

Increasing Independence Among Children Diagnosed With Autism Using A Brief Embedded Teaching Strategy, Stephanie Toelken
Increasing Independence Among Children Diagnosed With Autism Using A Brief Embedded Teaching Strategy, Stephanie Toelken
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of a brief embedded teaching procedure, involving least-to-most prompting, for two paraprofessional staff in order to increase independent responses of two children diagnosed with autism in an inclusive setting. Training was given using a behavioral skills training approach, involving instructions, modeling, rehearsal, and feedback. The staff were trained to use the SWAT procedure used by Parsons, Reid and Lattimore (2009). A multiple baseline design across behaviors was used to evaluate the effects of the embedded teaching procedure. Maintenance of training effects was evaluated two weeks following the end of the …

Executive Summary The aim of the project was to promote and support strategic change in advancing graduate attribute development in Business education through engagement of staff and students with learning and assessment processes that embed graduate attribute development. The focus on graduate attributes currently is of upmost importance as Australian Business schools obtain, or seek to attain, international accreditation such as AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business). The quality assurance process of AACSB requires each degree program1 to specify learning goals, and demonstrate a student's achievement of these learning goals. The participating institutions had all achieved initial AACSB …
