This poem explores the experience of being an Asian American care provider and civilian, growing up and trying to mesh together culture with “fitting in” and suffering racism from other individuals and patients. It was inspired by the March 16, 2022, shootings in Atlanta and discusses the origin of hatred and racism/xenophobia. What I hope this conveys is a glimpse into the shared perspectives of many Asian American and Pacific Islanders and describes the optimism moving forward as we begin to tackle these issues.

Women's health care professionals, such as general physicians, obstetricians and gynecologists, midwives, nurses, and doulas, in the US need to be aware of cultural issues and disparities. Minorities and migrant women experience cultural challenges and disparities when receiving health care in the US. Without cultural sensitivity, patient care is compromised. Pregnancy and childbirth practices vary widely by culture, and potential differences in perspectives, beliefs, and treatment of these are critical issues for women’s health care professionals to study. Female genital cutting (FGC), obstetric fistulas (OF), and female cancer are also discussed in this paper.

The eQuality Toolkit is a training manual that helps healthcare providers build a foundation of inclusive clinical skills to competently care for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer-identified (LGBTQ) patients and individuals born with differences of sex development (DSD). Although this toolkit was designed for medical students, any healthcare provider who wants to learn inclusive clinical skills can benefit from this accessible, brief primer through its actionable steps to improve clinical care.

Maddy is a child with a rare disease called Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood (AHC). Certain triggers like heat and stress cause her to become partially or totally paralyzed and experience painful neck spasms called dystonia. Nurse-Patient Communication In Oncology Setting: A Phenomenological Study Of Trust From Patients' Perspectives, Julia B. Havelick

A phenomenological study was performed to explore trust within the contexts of nurse-patient relationships with oncology patients. Specifically, the present study explored trust within these relationships in oncology settings. Former and current patients were interviewed to determine their experiences of being trusted (or distrusted) by nurses. Four themes were derived from interviews: competence, personal attention, comfort and communication. Communication and competence were themes that were shown to most increase trust. Incompetence was shown to decrease trust. Nurses who appeared too busy did not instill trust either. Touch, positive facial expressions, and physical appearance increased trust.
