A meditation on the interior and exterior in physical space can help us to think about the relationship between the self and other. This thesis explores the boundary between the inside and outside, and between absence and presence through silkscreen printed fabrics. Using an improvisational process guided by chance, residual marks are layered to create an illusion of ephemeral architecture. These textiles offer an experience of time and space that exists between interior and exterior worlds.

Reading The Room: Memory, Dwelling, And The Everyday, Sara R. Hardin

In any space, there is a residue that coats the present with a patina of memory. Creating layered imagery in dream-like paintings and prints, I use the domestic realm as a metaphor for the internal world of the mind, memories, and private thoughts, including them in compositions with symbols like the boundaries of windows, doors, and gates. These metaphorical structures also portray outward identities, which guard inner emotions. The conceptual aspects of these compositional elements weave together memories of the past and places of the present into a unified whole.

The article presents the evolution of ergonomics and design of Protestant churches in Ukraine in the period from 1991-2021. Since Ukraine left the Soviet Union, the Soviet worldview of Ukrainian Protestants has gradually changed, which, in turn, influenced the formation of the subject-spatial environment and, in general, the ergo design of Protestant churches. The process of disorientation creates a position or effect of being “out of place.” When feeling out of place, we enter a liminal space. My work is the practice of placing myself within this transitional space made up of lines, symbols, and passageways, where perception is slanted and ultimately, collapses. I am confronting and questioning my own sense of direction, locating myself within this liminal space between what was and what is — a place of not knowing.

MOTIVATION In Richmond, there are 1.21 times as many African Americans as any other ethnic group. Yet 63.4% of African Americans live in poverty (Richmond, VA). African Americans face greater exposure to stress due to low socioeconomic status and poverty. In these communities, “discrimination and deprivation undermine individuals’ ability to accumulate the social and material resources to mitigate the effects of stress” (Brondolo, 2018). Impressions of Australia's interior adorn the interior of Mario's Palace Hotel in Broken Hill. Built in 1889 during the mining boom and purchased by Italian immigrant Mario Celotto in 1949, the walls of Mario's Palace Hotel were the canvas of Aboriginal artist, Gordon Wayne.

Pastoral scenes and plummeting waterfalls provide a stark albeit surreal contrast to the rocky plains and searing temperatures outside. Among the Australian landscapes appears Botticelli’s Venus – the work of Mario himself -- in what has been described as "Italian Renaissance meets Outback”.
