Seeking Identity In The Built Environment The Impact Of Latinx Culture Centers On College Campuses, Nancy Munoz
Seeking Identity In The Built Environment The Impact Of Latinx Culture Centers On College Campuses, Nancy Munoz
Capstone Projects
When students move to college for the first time, they are faced with challenges of adjustment and acclimating to a new environment. For Latinx students, these challenges are amplified. Many Latinx students are first-generation college students, meaning neither of their parents attended or obtained a bachelor’s degree from a four-year institution. This causes a ripple in the experiences these students face as they were given little guidance on how to navigate college.
They are leaving behind a culture they shared with friends and family. This culture is full of cuisines, music, and cultural traditions. For many this is the first …

Poetry, The Other, And Byu: Tolerance And Diversity Within Our Campus Community, Natalie Quinn
Poetry, The Other, And Byu: Tolerance And Diversity Within Our Campus Community, Natalie Quinn
BYU Studies Quarterly
If there is any homogeneity at BYU, it is a homogeneity that we believe extends well beyond the bounds of the university's campus to include and encompass the whole world. We believe that we are all children of God, that we have the same Heavenly Father and therefore have an obligation to treat one another with love and respect, or with charity, which is the Christian theological version of Levinas' philosophical concept of acknowledging the Other. As we charitably and respectfully acknowledge the Other, we can promote tolerance and diversity without our campus community. I learned as a junior in …
Gay And Lesbian Life At Colby 1969-1974, Rachel Baron, Qainat Khan
Gay And Lesbian Life At Colby 1969-1974, Rachel Baron, Qainat Khan
WGSS Selected Student Work
The history of a gay and lesbian student community at Colby seems to point to the difficulty of visibility. For students who were able to find others like themselves, their group of lesbian and gay friends had to remain underground. For students who were grappling with their newly found, socially stigmatized sexuality, the experience was isolating if they did not know where to find others like themselves. This paper seeks to address the social forces that kept sexually variant students from expressing their sexual identities openly on campus. Part of this difficulty is attributable to the compulsory heterosexuality assumed by …

The Student Association-An Evaluation, John Gienapp
The Student Association-An Evaluation, John Gienapp
Concordia Theological Monthly
"How does it feel to be top flea on a dead dog?" The wry question addressed to a student association president dramatizes a reality in the life of the association. That reality is the need for reevaluation. It is axiomatic that one thing always present at a seminary is change.
