Currently, films are not only a medium for entertainment, but can also be used as a medium for information, persuasion, and even education. Nature conservation is one of the environmental issues that is currently of concern. In a survey conducted by a non-governmental organization, the public paid sufficient attention to protecting biodiversity, flora, and fauna. Wild animal conservation is an issue that will be addressed in this research. The film "Petualangan Sherina 2" is a musical genre film that focuses on the importance of the conservation of wild animals, namely orangutans. This research will discuss how a film can be …

The Missguided Project: Bringing Awareness To The Stigmas And Miseducation Surrounding Women’S Health Through Art And Creative Research, Gwyneth Cunningham, Hayley Newton, Zeen Ari, Claire Portele, Kerlous Aziz, Madelyn Kearns
Belmont University Research Symposium (BURS)
MissGuided is a project that discusses miseducation, shame, and stigma within women's healthcare settings, and the transformative potential of storytelling and artmaking in these contexts. Women encounter systemic miseducation, leading to shame and stigma surrounding their health experiences. However, through the power of community-driven narratives and creative expression, these barriers can be dismantled. Facilitating communal dinner parties as a form of conceptual art making, we aim to explore the diverse experiences in healthcare through conversation. The accumulation of the research, dinner parties, and wellcores will be delivered through a collective cookbook which includes recipes, testimonials, and art. By sharing personal …

Lost And Captured Warriors Still Missing: Raising Awareness And Support Through Design, Caitlin Martin Frost
Masters Theses
Over the years the search for prisoners of war and missing in action has faded from the spotlight in media and social focus, yet there is still a need to help families find their loved ones that are unaccounted for. This research is aimed to investigate the knowledge of prisoners of war (POW) and those missing in action (MIA) and what current organizations are doing to support the search for the missing. Specifically, it investigates methods that would aid in the spread of bringing awareness to this topic to the public. The following research questions were asked: 1. Who are …

Unveiling Deception: Discourse Analysis Of Sora And The Impact Of Ai On Misinformation, Kellen Edwards
Student Scholar Symposium Abstracts and Posters
In today’s era of information abundance, combating the proliferation of misinformation is paramount. The growing concern within the release of artificial intelligence–AI models–have exemplified concerns through Open AI’s new text-to-video learning language model: Sora, heightening the ever-present issue of how artificial intelligence will be a detriment to society. This project is a culmination of a comprehensive analysis regarding the ongoing discourse of the effects of this language learning text-to-video model and its impending effects of deception. Implementing James Paul Gee’s meticulous discourse analysis tools, I was able to meticulously examine online discussions spanning diverse social media platforms to unearth underlying …

Querying the Past: LGBTQ Maine Oral History Project Collection
Johannah Burdin shares her story as a lesbian/queer woman experiencing southern Maine in the 1990s. Her story touches on topics involving coming out, relationships, a traumatic incident that left her disabled, activism, and much more. She was active in her youth in spreading awareness on the AIDS/HIV crisis, education on safe sex, and spent her evenings at popular Portland gay bars, like Sister’s Bar and Limelight/The Underground. Although she is not much into drinking, she recognized these were some of the few spots queer people could go to make community and relationships. Johannah also shares her story of becoming a …

Preparing Future Leaders In The Arts Through The Community Arts Engagement Certificate Program: What I Learned From Teaching The First Introductory Seminar, Sharon Davis Gratto
Research and Reflection on Learning and Teaching in Higher Education
The University of Dayton’s Community Arts Engagement certificate program was recently launched with the teaching of its first introductory seminar. The program and this course were conceived to be broader in scope for arts majors than the more familiar arts administration minor program. Several of the outcomes of the seminar—both those planned and those unforeseen—can be informative in thinking more expansively about experiential learning and community collaboration in arts education or other disciplines. This article represents a narrative description of the program and its introductory seminar and a personal reflection after teaching the seminar for the first time.

Nondual States Are Not A Thing: This Inspiring New Age Spiritual Idea Is Neither Advaita Vedanta Nor Psychology, Glenn Hartelius
Nondual States Are Not A Thing: This Inspiring New Age Spiritual Idea Is Neither Advaita Vedanta Nor Psychology, Glenn Hartelius
International Journal of Transpersonal Studies
The term “nondual states” has gained some currency as applied to states of mind in which the sense of self is softened, expanded, or shifted from conventional experience. Nonduality is a metaphysical concept about the nature of reality, commonly associated with the Advaita Vedanta school of Indian religion. New Age religious thought has applied the term “nondual” to states of consciousness that are believed to contact or apprehend this speculated metaphysical ideal. However, this use is incompatible with lineage-based teachings of Advaita Vedanta, inadequately precise to serve as a psychological construct, and improper as an insertion of New Age metaphysical …
Heritage Figures In Contemporary Algerian Feminist Poetry, Naima Boulkaibet
Heritage Figures In Contemporary Algerian Feminist Poetry, Naima Boulkaibet
Journal of the Arab American University مجلة الجامعة العربية الامريكية للبحوث
Heritage in poetry may be one of the most studied themes. It is an essential element in saving identity and singularity (uniqueness) wanted by poets in their poems. That was manifested with modernism poets who coexisted with heritage and grasped the way they can use it and the charming beauty it adds to the poem. The manifestation of using heritage in the Algerian modern poetry in general and feminist poetry in particular confirms the poet’s recognition of the historical and civilizational awareness included in their poetry by the use of heritage. This study is an exploration of the way that …

Medical Ethics: From The Perspective Of Undergraduate Pre-Health Students, Hannah Im
Medical Ethics: From The Perspective Of Undergraduate Pre-Health Students, Hannah Im
Theses/Capstones/Creative Projects
The burden of ethical decision-making is a significant contributor to compassion fatigue in healthcare professionals. Due to the impact of moral conflicts, it may be beneficial to reassess the effectiveness of current ethics education and training. While previous studies have surveyed a range of medical professionals and students, it remains unclear if exposure to ethics topics during undergraduate education could better prepare future healthcare workers. Thus, there is a need to identify the necessity of introducing ethics courses into the required pre-health curriculum. The following study took the first step to gauge this by surveying undergraduate pre-health students on their …

Sentience In Decapods: An Open Question, Mark Briffa
Sentience In Decapods: An Open Question, Mark Briffa
Animal Sentience
Crump et al.’s framework is a powerful tool designed to assist decisions on the ethical treatment of decapod crustaceans. However, the question of whether decapods are sentient (i.e., whether they feel), remains open, perhaps indefinitely. More optimistically, we might design experiments that distinguish among different levels of awareness, sometimes viewed as components of sentience. We should strike a balance between assuming that all organisms are sentient and making unnecessary anatomical assumptions about sentience. Refining current experiments may provide concrete insights about awareness in Decapoda and other taxa.
A Perfect Storm: Nonfiction On The Progression And Regression Of Anxiety, Amanda Guindon
A Perfect Storm: Nonfiction On The Progression And Regression Of Anxiety, Amanda Guindon
Honors Program Theses and Projects
From the moment I decided to write a creative nonfiction collection of essays for my thesis, I knew that anxiety would be my focus. Mental health awareness is on the uprise as it’s estimated by the National Institute of Mental Health that 31.1% of all United States adults will experience any anxiety disorder in their lives. While I knew anxiety would be an important topic to discuss in order to bring awareness to causes and effects of anxiety, I had no concept of the challenges I would face in portraying my mental health to an audience who may know nothing …
Protection Of Women Against Sexual Harassment-Social Barricades And Implementation Of Laws In Pakistan, Malieka F. Deeba
Protection Of Women Against Sexual Harassment-Social Barricades And Implementation Of Laws In Pakistan, Malieka F. Deeba
Journal of International Women's Studies
Sexual harassment infringes the fundamental human rights of women. It restricts the most important segment of society from demonstrating their full potential and their right to work and attain equal opportunity. The quantum of this behaviour in a society can only be evaluated when women in general are fully aware of the nature of this behaviour and the legal protection available. Sexual harassment is an ambiguous term for many; when hearing of an incident of sexual harassment, many might not understand exactly what crime has been committed. Under which category does it fall? What if the complainant is lying? Pakistan …

Title : Criticism of Criticism : Themes, Objectives and Method
During the twentieth century, literary criticism experienced incredible development and fruitful openness onto humanities. Literary theory scholars recovered most of its neglected facets and shortcomings. Concomitantly, literary criticism witnessed a period of turmoil and retreat. Thus, Criticism shift focus onto scrutinizing literature to understand the mechanisms of critical discourse. Ancient Arab criticism was limited to descriptive discourse, which generates questions about texts to deconstruct them. By far, criticism remains a conscious art, which adopts scientific methodology. Thus, criticism of criticism is interdisciplinary, and seeks to formulate new theoretical and methodological …

My art is emblematic of the practice of accepting reality. The vehicles I use to do this are a cast of characters, materials and compositional strategies that in totality, remind the viewer and myself to be in the moment.
The thesis exhibition, Heart Vomit and the Dream Army, featured mural-esque ink paintings on panels and approximately 36 - 48 inch high abstract ceramic figures covered with images. Both the 2D and 3D works feature a cast of characters. These characters originate from “Michelle Land”, an imaginary world created to house an evolving symbolic visual language. Background: The severe stage of dementia (SSD) can cause the loss of self-awareness, affecting the proper assessment, treatment, and care. The Music Therapy Assessment Tool for Awareness of Disorders of Consciousness (MATADOC) is a validated and reliable tool to measure awareness in DOC populations and it might be able to track awareness levels in people with SSD. Also, there is a need to identify effective treatments with people with SSD since pharmacological treatments have shown limited and even negative results. Both live music therapy and music listening of recorded songs have evidence of positive effects.
Purpose: The purpose of this …

Awareness of environmental degradation, culminating in the broad global transformations of human-caused climate change, is no longer a peripheral issue. And while there may be some debate of climate change, a simple denial is no longer an option in light of the data and the agreement of 97 per cent of scientists. In light of the sheer magnitude of the challenge, which has the potential to threaten human survival, much of what we know must be rethought, including traditional academic disciplines. In this essay, an environmental sociologist and a theologian enter into a conversation with environmental economists and others concerned …

The History Curriculum And Inculcation Of National Consciousness In History Students In Ghana, Charles Adabo Oppong
The Councilor: A National Journal of the Social Studies
Abstract
National consciousness plays an important role in socio-economic and political developments in many nations. Mostly, national consciousness promotes national unity, sustainable development, peace, respect for diversity, patriotism, and others. Undoubtedly, most of the variables mentioned are acquired through the study of national history. This study stems from the motivation to find out whether the Ghanaian senior high school history curriculum addresses the canons identified as variables of national consciousness. The study, therefore, aimed at examining the content of the Ghanaian history syllabus, as a curriculum document, whether it inculcates national consciousness or otherwise. 125 Form Three history students in …
