History: Student Scholarship & Creative Work

To demonstrate the intersection of French studies, history, and international relations, the project focuses on the cultural exchanges among French poets, like Guillaume Apollinaire and André Breton, and Spanish painters, principally Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dalí, during the rise of surrealism. More specifically, the project spans World War I, the Spanish Civil War, and World War II. In addition to evaluating paintings, research employs literary and historical sources, such as French poems, and extracts from surrealist periodicals such as Le Surréalisme au service de la revolution and VVV.
