D’Apollinaire À Dalí : Les Relations Entre La France Et L’Espagne Au Début Du 20e Siècle [From Apollinaire To Dalí: Franco-Spanish Cultural Exchanges In The Early 20th Century], Emily Wieder

History: Student Scholarship & Creative Work

To demonstrate the intersection of French studies, history, and international relations, the project focuses on the cultural exchanges among French poets, like Guillaume Apollinaire and André Breton, and Spanish painters, principally Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dalí, during the rise of surrealism. More specifically, the project spans World War I, the Spanish Civil War, and World War II. In addition to evaluating paintings, research employs literary and historical sources, such as French poems, and extracts from surrealist periodicals such as Le Surréalisme au service de la revolution and VVV. Les différences entre deux cultures sont souvent reconnues, mais elles sont rarement bien comprises. Par exemple, les normes de travail aux Etats-Unis et en France sont très différentes ; par rapport à la conciliation entre le travail et la vie privée. Les Américains n’ont pas certaines lois universelles, comme le congé maternité/paternité, et en France les longes vacances annuels sont normales. This project aims to document the movement from the earliest known instance of interfaith action in America, to todays vibrant culture. This new resource is designed to help interfaith leaders and interfaith educators have a visual way to analyze and integrate key people, groups, locations, and events in the interfaith movement in the United States. Militarism As A Theme In Nazi Education And Youth Organizations, Matthew J. Smith

History: Student Scholarship & Creative Work

The rise of Nazism in Germany led to reform in the state education system. This included subversive themes of militarism in typically non-nationalistic subjects, as well as inflated nationalism in subjects such as history and geography. The militaristic themes in the Nazis’ educational system paralleled the mission of the youth organizations in Germany during this period. These youth organizations also used the psychology of German adolescents to further indoctrinate and achieve their mission of creating a generation of ready servants of the German fascist state.
