Discharge granted by Isaac Shelby, Governor of Kentucky, on 18 June 1814 of a recognizance given by Alexander Spotswood and Michael Denham for the appearance of James Thomas at the March 1813 term of the Barren Circuit Court. The discharge cites evidence of their “every exertion” to bring Thomas to court after his failure to appear.

Beynroth, anticipates her visit to Louisville, Kentucky, where he intends to have her see two women: “Charlotte,” about to move to a new home, and “Caroline,” whose poor health has required her to postpone a planned trip. The letter is addressed to Henrietta in care of her father Edward Broughton.

The detailed specifications as to design, dimensions, materials, and method of construction were prepared by a commission appointed by the Barren County Court. Unable to secure a bid to erect the bridge for the appropriated sum of $1,000, the commission recommended an additional appropriation in order to accept a bid of $1,200.

He reminds Parker of his delivery of a bond as guardian for the three youngest children, and asks for further instructions. The letter is written on letterhead from the Office of Burrus Brothers, Drugs and General Merchandise, and bears an illustrated advertisement for Dr. Brown’s Family Remedies promising relief from a variety of complaints.

In camp near Bardstown, Kentucky with the 64th Regiment, Company B, Ohio Volunteers, he praises Kentucky’s farms, crops and springs, and refers to two men of his acquaintance: William Clark, who is serving with the Confederate Army, and Charles Clark, who he met in Louisville, Kentucky and who boasted of his regiment’s superior skills and African American servants. The envelope bears a pro-Union image.

Letter, 10 August 1863, of George Messer to his wife Lottie Messer in DeWitt County, Illinois, written from camp southwest of Lebanon, Kentucky. He describes the forces gathering in the area and praises his current officers. Despite the amenities of his camp, he recounts the prevalence of illness and his struggle with chronic diarrhea, which he fears will prevent him and others from accompanying the regiment on a planned march to east Tennessee.

Clements’ campaign for governor of Kentucky, providing brief data on the candidate and soliciting support; also letter, 30 October 1961, from Clements replying to the recipient’s telegram about a toll road groundbreaking ceremony in Leitchfield, Kentucky. Clements, who had earlier resigned as state highway commissioner and was not informed of the ceremony, nevertheless expresses satisfaction that he had initiated the project.
