Imagination has been introduced as a term of art in discussion of the social and political world. Some years ago James Boyd White turned to it in The Legal Imagination, his monumental work on the foundations of secular law and legal practice. A prominent example of its use today is Charles Taylor's Modern Social Imaginaries, tracing changes in the common mind leading to what we now call modernity. Year One of a four year program in which participants read from every book of the Bible. Lessons comprise scripture reading, secondary reading, map exercises, discussion questions, and catechism references. The program is based on up-to-date research by Catholic scholars in the field of Biblical Studies but also incorporates an ecumenical approach. In that way the program is designed for Catholics but not limited to Catholics.

Year One of the four year program covers the first two major sections of the Old Testament: the Pentateuch and the historical books that make up the Deuteronomic history of Israel. Year One is a full introduction to the foundational books of the Old Testament and their most important historical, interpretive, and theological questions. This teacher guidebook is intended to be used with the student workbook.
