Selective Methods Of Teaching Secondary English: The Scarlet Letter: A Study And Application Of The Collaborative And Mastery Learning Methods, Janine M. Kardas
Masters Theses
This study is about the relationship of content in teaching to the process in teaching for the purpose of helping students to become better readers of literature. This study investigates two selected teaching strategies supported by research to be effective, and applies them to the teaching of a canonical piece of literature, The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. This study employs literary theory in the development of the objectives and applies both cooperative learning and mastery learning methods to the teaching of this novel. Two sets of lesson plans are developed from the objectives and subsequently analyzed for their effectiveness …
John Rawls, The Conception Of A Liberal Self, And The Communitarian Critique, Johnathan Edward Mansfield
John Rawls, The Conception Of A Liberal Self, And The Communitarian Critique, Johnathan Edward Mansfield
Dissertations and Theses
John Rawls' A Theory of Justice stands as the single most important work in the Anglo-American liberal tradition after World War II. In A Theory of Justice, Rawls revives the social contract doctrine in order to determine principles of justice that would be chosen by persons who are free and equal moral individuals. Since Rawls believes that no single conception of the good can establish justice in a pluralistic society, he posits a set of principles of right which are prior to any particular good. Thus his theory, which he calls "justice as fairness," is deontological. Since its publication in …

The Background, Formation, Development, And Presentation Of Ellen White's Concept Of Forgiveness From Her Childhood To 1864, Ronald Deane Bissell
The Background, Formation, Development, And Presentation Of Ellen White's Concept Of Forgiveness From Her Childhood To 1864, Ronald Deane Bissell
Dissertations
Problem. Ellen White's early writings reveal a pronounced emphasis on sanctification and holiness. They do not set forth a clear and comprehensive presentation of her concept of forgiveness. The purpose of this study is to explicate her concept of forgiveness as presented in her writings to 1864 in the light of the background, formation, and early development of her religious views.
Method. Ellen White wrote little about forgiveness during her early years. Her concept of forgiveness can best be deduced from inferences found in her writings. Examination of factors that contributed to her religious thought is carried forward by means …

The Relationship Between Needs And Interpersonal Problems Of Women In Four Interpersonal Categories, Valarie Elaine Sikes-Nova
The Relationship Between Needs And Interpersonal Problems Of Women In Four Interpersonal Categories, Valarie Elaine Sikes-Nova
Psychology Theses & Dissertations
This study empirically assessed the relationship between needs structure and interpersonal presentation in women. Proposed indices for selective attention were assessed as to their ability to detect pathology. The relationship between interpersonal presentation and interpersonal problems were also studied. The measures used were The Picture Identification Test (Chambers, 1976), The Interpersonal Adjective Scales-Revised (Wiggins, 1985), The Inventory for Interpersonal Problems (Horowitz, 1986), and The Marlowe-Crowne Social-Desirability Scale (1964).
Subjects were assigned to one of four interpersonal categories (Friendly-Dominant, Friendly-Submissive, Hostile-Dominant, Hostile-Submissive) on the basis of their self-reported IAS-R and one category on the basis of their counselor-reported IAS-R scores. Subjects …

All Master's Theses
The love I've experienced in life has inspired me to explore the positive, creative power of woman. I see woman as a vessel. Within she holds her love, new life, and a host of ideas, emotions and dreams. The potential of women in today's American culture fascinates me. Women face a wide variety of life-choices. For many, these new opportunities in the work-place have been accompanied by fresh dilemmas. How does one juggle family, work, spiritual, and personal responsibilities? Challenged, today's woman is pregnant with possibilities, full of new hope and new life. Yet she also has an eternal side, …
Effective Industry Writing: The Power Of Cohesive Language, Jeanne Jones Manzer
Effective Industry Writing: The Power Of Cohesive Language, Jeanne Jones Manzer
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Efficiently produced, clear writing for technical documents can dramatically affect the profits of today's high-tech industry. Industry management, however, often underrates the need for specific technical writing training among technical and support personnel. In addition, staff people commissioned to work exclusively on technical manuals, proposals, reports, and similar documents are rare in small industry. Today's corporate environment demands skilled writers who can produce clearly written documents that are easy to understand. While industry demands skilled writers, many of its professionals claim their academic training did not adequately prepare them for their job requirements. Because effective writing truly has a bearing …
