Of couse, as the preliminary discussion has so far indicated, the primary weight and burden of study will be upond the Septugintal influence. The three stages to be developed are reminiscent of the comment of R.C. Trench in his opening comments concerning ecclesia. He named them as heathen, Jewish, and Christian. The Theory And Practice Of The Political Kingdom Of God In Mormon History, 1829-1890, Klaus J. Hansen Jan 1959

The Theory And Practice Of The Political Kingdom Of God In Mormon History, 1829-1890, Klaus J. Hansen

Theses and Dissertations

The history of Mormonism reveals that almost from its beginning, the new church was to be not only a basis for an ecclesiastical Kingdom of God but for a temporal Kingdom as well. This temporal Kingdom, never fully realized, was to develop into a political state preparatory to the inauguration of the Apocalyptic Kingdom. Ultimately, this Kingdom was to rule the whole world.

Theory and practice did not always merge in the organization and administration of this Kingdom. When Joseph Smith organized the nucleus of a political government for the Kingdom of God in 1844 it became rather obvious that …

The History Of Public Education In Daggett County, Utah, And Adjacent Areas, Donald Weir Baxter

Theses and Dissertations

The region under study in this report consists of Daggett County, Utah, the northwestern section of Moffat County, Colorado, and the southwestern area of Sweetwater, Wyoming. It is an area about fifty miles in length and seventeen miles in width, with a population of some four hundred and fifty persons in 1950. The economy was based upon agriculture which prevented the growth of large towns and determined a characteristic of a sparse population living in a comparatively large area. Isolated from Utah by a huge mountain range, the people of Daggett County were closer, in many respects, to the affairs …

The String Quartets Of Bela Bartok : An Analysis, Arthur. Corra Jan 1959

The String Quartets Of Bela Bartok : An Analysis, Arthur. Corra

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

What is generally referred to by the public-at-large as “modernism” is thought (by it) to be based upon the denial and contradiction of the fundamental principles of musical art. But it would be a grave error to assume from this that the present age differs in the attitude toward modernism very considerably from any other, except perhaps in degree. The general intellectual or artistic niveau of any period whatsoever is almost inevitably a low one, apart from a few outstanding figures -- rarely exceeding two or three in any single generation -- who impart most of the significance to it. …

A Study Of Early Utah-Montana Trade, Transportation, And Communication, 1847-1881, L. Kay Edrington Jan 1959

A Study Of Early Utah-Montana Trade, Transportation, And Communication, 1847-1881, L. Kay Edrington

Theses and Dissertations

Only a few hardy men had ventured into America's intermountain west prior to the year 1847. Arriving in this year, the Mormons, under Brigham Young, slowly conquered parts of the Great Basin and within a few years had produced a self-sustaining agricultural economy. production of a surplus in farm products awaited only the emergence of a "foreign" market. This market was soon forthcoming.

The developing process of Utah-Montana relations from 1847 through 1881 was a natural occurance. From the very first, men from Utah traveled northward. The Mormon experiment at Ft. Lemhi during the late 1850's was a prime example …

Western Influences In The Twentieth Century Japanese Art Song, Theodore Hoffman Jan 1959

Western Influences In The Twentieth Century Japanese Art Song, Theodore Hoffman

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Ninety years ago Japanese music was essentially monophonic, confined to a limited number of traditional instruments, and completely Oriental in technique and sound. Today, Western harmony and counterpoint are intrinsic elements in much of Japanese music. Highly competent symphony orchestras in Japan perform skillfully orchestrated Japanese scores. Year by year the musical world of Japan becomes more Western.

Teaching Music In The Junior High School To The Mono Indians Of Madera County, California, Luella Catherine Ware

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The educational progress of pupils is of deep concern to pupils, parents, and teachers alike. If one is teaching in an Indian community, he knows that the teaching of music to such children will require different methods from those used in some other community. Often the pupils have had little or no experience with music. The effective school adjusts its curriculum to the abilities and needs of all pupils.

The general music class in the junior high school is the heart of the music program. The pupil’s growth in musical values is the teacher’s responsibility. The materials and methods of …
