Criminal Liability For Omissions: A Brief Summary And Critique Of The Law In The United States, Paul H. Robinson
Criminal Liability For Omissions: A Brief Summary And Critique Of The Law In The United States, Paul H. Robinson
All Faculty Scholarship
Criminal liability for an omission is imposed in two distinct situations. First, such liability is often imposed explicitly in offense definitions that punish a failure to perform certain conduct. For example, it is an offense to fail to file a tax return. Second, it is also common for a general provision, apart from an offense definition, to create omission liability for an offense defined in commission terms. Parents, for example, are generally given the legal duty to care for their children. A parent may be held liable for criminal homicide, then, where death results from a failure to perform this …

The Impact Of Language On Musical Composition In Ghana: An Introduction To The Musical Style Of Ephraim Amu, V. Kofi Agawu
Publications and Research
In most cultures of the world, the creative act of composition may be defined simply as the transformation of pre-existing material into new, individualized structures. The precompositional resource may be a system such as the hierarchical arrangement of triads that forms the basis of Western tonality, a set of formulas that generates such genres as Gregorian chant and West African storytelling, or even a rigidly defined set of relationships such as those inherent in a twelve-tone row. In each case, the precompositional elements provide a framework for the analysis and interpretation of the composition.

The image of the work is the death's head, the skull. A universal and extremely familiar if not hackneyed symbol. One that continues to pop up in such places as: Shakespeare's HAMLET ... Hitler's EUROPE ... Truman's JAPAN ... Kissinger's CHILE . . . Kissinger and Nixon and Mao and Frazer's VIETNAM and KAMPUCEA ... Sukarto and Whit lam's TIMOR ... Reagan and Breznev's AFGHANISTAN .. . Two experiments demonstrated the way in which musicians and nonmusicians process realistic music encountered for the first time. A set of tunes whose members were related to each other by a number of specific musical relationships was constructed. In experiment I, subjects gave similarity judgments of all pairs of tunes, which were analyzed by the ADD-TREE clustering program. Musicians and nonmusicians gave essentially equivalent results: Tunes with different rhythms were rated as being very dissimilar, whereas tunes identical except for being in a major versus a minor mode were rated as being highly similar. In Experiment 2, subjects learned to …
