The University of Maine General Student Senate (GSS) is the fiduciary body of Student Government. It consists of no more than 35 Student Senators who serve as direct representatives of students in their respective colleges. The Vice President of Student Government is the President of the GSS. The GSS has final authority on all Student Government monetary issues, student organization matters and student administrative committee appointments. It also takes official stances on student concerns. Weekly meetings are open to the public and broadcast on the campus channel. The original College of Law (also known as School of Law) began its operations in 1898 and was located in Bangor, Maine in a building at Exchange and State streets. The building and records were destroyed during the 1911 Great Fire of Bangor. Following the fire the School relocated to a house at the corner of Second and Union streets in Bangor (now known as the Farrar building.

Before joining the University of Maine staff in 1952 Hamilton served as city editor of the Daily Kennebec Journal in Augusta, Maine. During World War II he served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was instrumental in the drafting and passage of Maine's "Right to Know" law in 1959.

The Bureau of Public Administration had its start at the University of Maine with the city manager program in the 1930’s. The Bureau was part of the progressive movement to professionalize municipal administration. The position of town manager became popular through this movement as a way to administer above the political fray. The Bureau hosted, delivered, and facilitated training for municipal and public employees on a range of subjects. Llewelyn D. P. Palmer was a General of the Maine volunteer militia and Commander of the 8th Division. He was an attorney, an Athens, Maine Selectman, a Democratic Party official, and the Athens Postmaster. Charles F. H. Green was a Judge of the Somerset County Probate Court and an attorney.

Allen worked as a printer and compositor for the Morning Star, a newspaper in Dover, N.H., the Eastern Argus in Portland, Maine, and the Boston Journal before being employed as a proofreader and compositor at the Riverside Press in Cambridge, Mass.

The papers prepared for the Moody Beach case include briefs and the court decision, notes, an index to exhibits entered by the state of Maine, and Churchill's proposed testimony at the trial.

The first series begins with drafts of the report of the International Commission Pertaining to the St. John River as well as plans and maps accompanying the report and transcripts of a few of the proceedings of the Commission. Judge Dunn was born in Houghton County, Michigan on July 14, 1872. He lived in Blue Hill, Maine and graduated from the Blue Hill Academy. The collection covers his entire legal career, his term as Treasurer of the University of Maine, and his term as Maine Supreme Court Judge. Included are correspondence, letters, bills, and receipts. The legal papers include records of cases involving assaults, divorce, estates, collections, bankruptcies, and pensions. Also included are records of the University of Maine (1896-1936), the draft board (WWI), and the town of Orono (1833-1914).
