The papers of Almon C. Day, a farmer and legislator from Turner, Maine. Included are correspondence, invoices, and other documents relating to Day's farm and his political career. The correspondence includes letters between Almon and his wife Clara during the years 1871 to 1884, a few letters to and from their children, and letters from Almon's and Clara's cousins.

The papers of Brooks Hamilton, including personal information, correspondence, manuscripts, newspaper articles, course materials, information on public service activities, and materials relating to current legal issues in the field of journalism.

Before joining the University of Maine staff in 1952 Hamilton served as city editor of the Daily Kennebec Journal in Augusta, Maine. During World War II he served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was instrumental in the drafting and passage of Maine's "Right to Know" law in 1959.

The Bureau of Public Administration had its start at the University of Maine with the city manager program in the 1930’s. The Bureau was part of the progressive movement to professionalize municipal administration. The position of town manager became popular through this movement as a way to administer above the political fray. The Bureau hosted, delivered, and facilitated training for municipal and public employees on a range of subjects. Documents relate to town affairs, Maine militia, politics and legal work of the law firm.

Llewelyn D. P. Palmer was a General of the Maine volunteer militia and Commander of the 8th Division. He was an attorney, an Athens, Maine Selectman, a Democratic Party official, and the Athens Postmaster. Charles F. H. Green was a Judge of the Somerset County Probate Court and an attorney.

Allen was born in Sanford, Maine, Oct. 26, 1839. Allen worked as a printer and compositor for the Morning Star, a newspaper in Dover, N.H., the Eastern Argus in Portland, Maine, and the Boston Journal before being employed as a proofreader and compositor at the Riverside Press in Cambridge, Mass.
