Trade helped to catapult early societies from hunter gatherers – living in small communities of friends and family – to living in sprawling urban environments of ideas and exchange. Socialization and the exchange of ideas – and war—molded our modern times into what it is now. Ancient Nubia found itself in a conundrum that would test their resolve. Ptolemaic-ran Egypt was at their border, forcing themselves in as conquerors, unapologetic towards the millennia old culture that contributed much to their society. With a truce made between the Greeks and Meroe, trade was inevitably was enacted between the two power houses, …

Brighton Rock: Growth In Psychological Insight, Sr. Catherine Madigan

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation

A major literary trend in twentieth century Western literature is psychological realism in the novel. Henry James, generally acknowledged as a master in this field of writing, set the pattern for this type. It is difficult to follow a literary form that has been well developed by another author, particularly a writer like James; yet, this is what Graham Greene has attempted to do. In his fictional works, Greene has used some of the insights that he gleaned from reading Henry James, whom he "ranks with the greatest of creative writers"

William T. Sherman, Commanding General Of The Military Division Of The Mississippi, 1864-1866, Henry W. Johnson

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation

Much has been written about General William T. Sherman. His name appears in nearly every general account of the Civil War. But, after a careful examination of the field it has been found that one aspect of his career, namely, his role as Commanding General of the Military Division of the Mississippi, has been neglected. In part, this might have been expected. Since much of his work was of such a nature as to cause antipathy in a large portion of the present United States, it is understandable that Southerners might hesitate to write on it.

A Critical Analysis Of Negro Character In The American Novel Of The South 1935-1940, Alice Veronica Johnson

I have observed in reading novels by both white and Negro authors that only certain types of Negroes have been portrayed. The question kept rising in my mind, Why? The Concept Of God In The Poetry Of The American Negro, Mary H. Jones Sr.

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation

Many authors have written much about the Negro and religion. Those who know the black man in American readily concede that he is by nature a lover of God, and that this great innate belief manifests itself in his daily life. Books of deep and light reading- some written in prose, others in verse- have been produced by American Negro men and women. Many of their works have mirrored forth the concept of God in the mind of the Afro-American; but this concept has not remained the same- this great faith is at present suffering decay.
