The purpose of this study included an exegetical examination of the validity of the Scripture passages cited as proofs for the answers, a systematic examination of the questions and answers as to their doctrinal accuracy, and, to a lesser degree, a pedagogical study of the presentation as to its effectiveness.

In an effort to determine a partial answer to the question whether or not children grow in doctrinal knowledge and understanding during the post-confirmation period, the following study was made among St. Louis children over the period of nine months after confirmation. Inasmuch, as the study confines itself to children in St. Louis, to a specific type of material, generalizations should be made cautiously. It would not necessarily be valid, for example, without careful comparison of all the variables, to conclude that children in a small rural parish in Texas would show the same rate or direction of growth that …

Confirmation .instruction of children is the foundation of the work of the pastor. During his period of contact with the catechumens he can strengthen the personal Christianity of the children. He has the children in the time of their lives when their minds are eager and susceptible. A good catechist through his instruction lays a solid foundation for a congregation of staunch believers in future years. Good confirmation instruction makes the preaching more efficient, makes the work with troubled souls easier, and increases the spirit of love between pastor and catechumens.
