Project Description
Literature is riddled with dead or otherwise missing mothers. Virginia Woolf's life and writing were partly, yet significantly guided by the death of her mother when Woolf was just 13 years-old. This loss reappears across her novels. As an artist, I am interested in studying both her writing and her as a woman who experienced this early and profound loss. Conceptually, this work is supported by continued research to advance the trope of the missing mother. The fusion or streaming of French Impressionistic music (harmonic color palettes/schemes) with traditional jazz sensibilities (jazz rhythm, improvisations and instrumentation. This streaming is most evident in the compositions of Aslan’s Act, Narnian Knight, Dayacks, Reflection and My Elizabeth.The harmonic and orchestration colors in these compositions and arrangements emit an emotional charged aural experience.

cystema @ 23°8’27.054”N 82°21’10.117”W is a site-specific installation on the façade and interior of the Centro de Arte Contemporáneo Wilfredo Lam, located at San Ignacio 22 and Empedrado, Plaza de la Catedral, Old Havana. The opening took place May 11, 2012. This project is part of Nicaragua’s representation at the XI Havana Biennial and has received generous support from Western Michigan University.
