Walking Percy's Tightrope : From Alienation To Affirmation, Karen Y. Carter
Walking Percy's Tightrope : From Alienation To Affirmation, Karen Y. Carter
Master's Theses
Walker Percy's Binx Bolling, of The Moviegoer, and Will Barrett, of The Last Gentleman and The Second Coming, are two Southern existential seekers who move from alienation and despair to create lives of meaningful commitment with the promise of fulfillment. Because of their similarities, we can trace a development in Percy's fiction which parallels the questor's development. These three books move from a preoccupation with death-in-life to a discovery of self and on to individual and cultural rebirth. Thus, The Moviegoer (1960) is about alienation and despair; The Last Gentleman (1966) is about the possibility of human relationships, …

Stained Glass In England From 1330-1460, Jennifer Stanger
Stained Glass In England From 1330-1460, Jennifer Stanger
Honors Theses
Stained glass is more precisely named painted glass, because of the enameling process. However, because stained glass is the popular term, it is used throughout the paper.
Please note that I have retained the original spellings in the quotes of both primary and secondary sources.
Crime And The Common Law In England, 1580-1640, Cara Swinden
Crime And The Common Law In England, 1580-1640, Cara Swinden
Honors Theses
In this paper, I have endeavored to illustrate many of the forms of crime committed during the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. I have also attempted to show the role of local people in the law. The workings of the common law of England have been simplified to outline the investigations, the trials, and the punishments received by felons and trespassers. Much of my research came from original manuscripts. Therefore, I have retained the original spellings, word order, and phrases, neither correcting nor modernizing the words, word order, or phrases, of the quotations and excerpts from those original manuscripts.

New Directions : Dewey, Aesthetics, And Psychology, David Clark
Honors Theses
The purpose of this paper is to determine whether psychological information is relevant to solving aesthetic problems. Along the way I will point out that there are disparate senses of the word "psychology" and I will show how John Dewey can be perceived historically as an early contributor to what we now call "cultural psychology", which I believe is a viable alternative to experimental aesthetics.
