When we brought out Tom Tilton: Coaster and Fisherman back in 1984 (actually it was Northeast Folklore -XXIII: 1982) we included a story about a Captain Pinhead on page 62, just the way Tom told it to Gale Huntington. The book hadn't been out long before I got a smoklngly angry letter from one Robert O. Walsh saying he was Captain Pinhead and that story was all wrong and he wanted us to do something to set the record straight. The only thing I could think of was to suggest he write up what really happened and we'd publish it …

Walk A Little Faster: Escape From Burma With General Stilwell In 1942, Henrietta Thompson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This paper describes why and how from 1971 to 1974 I traced the members of a group of 114 men and women who, like hundreds of thousands of others, were fleeing from Burma after the Japanese invasion of that country in January, 1942. The group walked approximately two hundred and fifty miles from Burma to safety in India under the leadership of Lieutenant General Joseph W. Stilwell of the United States Army in May, 1942. This event became known as the Walkout.
Woven in to the narrative of my search are the recollections of those I interviewed, the Walkout participants …

A native of Brunswick, and the state of Maine’s first Parade Magazine girl’s basketball All-American in 1983, Palombo returns to her home state with high hopes for the future of Black Bear women’s basketball.

Social Justice: Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion
The University of Maine is required to make all of its programs accessible, except where doing so would result in either a fundamental alteration of the nature of the program, or undue financial and administrative burdens. Program access requirements of the Americans With Disabilities Act do not require the University to make each existing facility immediately accessible. However, if structural changes in existing facilities are necessary in order to make the programs or services accessible, each changes must be made no later than Jan. 26, 1995.

"The Valley White With Mist" A Cape Cod Colony In Maine, 1770-1820, Jamie H. Eves
Maine History
The dramatic influx of southern New Englanders into the District of Maine in the 1770s is widely recognized but poorly understood. This article traces migration routes from Cape Cod to the Penobscot River valley. By 1770 farmlands on the Cape could no longer sustain an agrarian way of life that was important to many inhabitants. Choosing to change locations rather than occupations, families moved eastward and on the lower Penobscot River reproduced, as best they could, the world they left behind. This article explores the reasons for the uprooting, and the cultural, ideological, familial, and architectural links that bound the …

“To Obey Jesus Christ And General Washington”: Massachusetts, Catholicism And The Eastern Indians During The American Revolution, Francis D. Cogliano
“To Obey Jesus Christ And General Washington”: Massachusetts, Catholicism And The Eastern Indians During The American Revolution, Francis D. Cogliano
Maine History
Massachusetts government policy embodies a long history of anti-Catholic sentiment. During the Revolutionary War, the state faced a dilemma as the Indians of eastern Maine, whose loyalty was crucial to the defense of that region, appealed time and again for a Catholic priest to administer their sacraments. This study of the halting official policy regarding the religious needs of the Eastern Indians reveals both the ideological pragmatism of Massachusetts leaders under the pressures of war, and the perseverance of the Penobscot, Passamaquoddy, and Micmac Indians as they struggled to protect their religious way of life.

For 15 weeks last season, the University of Maine proved it deserved the pre-season accolades as best in the nation. But following a 3-2 loss to Michigan State at the East Regional in Providence, Maine's hopes for its first national championship were dashed.
Enter 1992-93.
In what is supposed to be a rebuilding year, head coach Shawn Walsh will need to find replacements for 1992 Hobey Baker Award winner Scott Pellerin and three time All-American Jean-Yves Roy, who opted to forgo his senior season and sign with the New York Rangers.
