A Proposed Program Of Junior Church Camping With An Evangelistic Emphasis, Alfred Bohr May 1961

A Proposed Program Of Junior Church Camping With An Evangelistic Emphasis, Alfred Bohr

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

As camping continues to grow as a vital part of the Christian Education program in the church, camp leaders are constantly seeking new and better tools to perform a more effective job. The church has been quite active in developing the program of camping for young people but has seemingly ignored the children. It wasn't until the 1930's that any rapid advances were made in junior camping. Consequently, any development in the camping movement for juniors has been carried on by secular agencies. These programs are very excellent, but they do not fully meet the need of the church camp, …

The Concept Of Perfection As Held By Early Friends, Paul J. Pickett May 1961

The Concept Of Perfection As Held By Early Friends, Paul J. Pickett

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

It was the purpose of this investigation to determine, if possible, the early Friends' concept of perfection.

Within the ranks of Evangelical Friends today there is some confusion and diversity of opinion regarding the early Friends' view of perfection. The problem which exists is due to several factors; 1) Very little has been written, of a contemporary nature, which deals with the question. 2) Most of that which has been written was published during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, therefore making the works hard to obtain and difficult to read and interpret. 3) The association of Quakers with the Wesleyan …

Wesley's Thought On Faith And Reason In Christian Redemption, Vernon H. Haas May 1961

Wesley's Thought On Faith And Reason In Christian Redemption, Vernon H. Haas

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Christian theology has always embodied the ideas of faith and reason as basic principles in the concept of Christian redemption. Likewise, human experience daily embraces, revolves around, and finds integration through faith and reason.

The relationship of faith and reason has been much less distinct. Throughout the Christian era a great difference of opinion has existed especially on the relationship of the two ideas in redemption. Usually this difference is held consequent to some particular views of the nature of man. Thus, for example, faith and reason are set in direct contrast to each other. One may be good while …

A Comparative Study Of The Wesleyan-Arminian And Calvinistic Doctrines Of The Perseverance Of The Saints As Set Forth By Selected Representatives, M. Edward Hegle May 1961

A Comparative Study Of The Wesleyan-Arminian And Calvinistic Doctrines Of The Perseverance Of The Saints As Set Forth By Selected Representatives, M. Edward Hegle

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

The Christian doctrine of the perseverance of the saints is an important teaching in the field of Christian theology. Perseverance is persistence in a state of grace until it is succeeded by a state of glory. Bible believing Christians in the evangelical churches have not been in complete agreement in their views of this important Christian tenet.

As one who has anticipated serving in the pastorate of the Evangelical United Brethren Church the writer was aware of his need to be able to guide the people in his parish to an intelligent understanding of this tenet and lead them in …

A Survey Of Some Contemporary Philosophies Of Man, Richard Francis Carroll

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Excerpt: "It is the task of Philosophy to answer the basic questions of life. What are we? why are we here? are questions basic to the life of every thinking person.

There is a division of Philosophy which deals specifically with the foregoing questions. That division is known as Metaphysics. Metaphysics deals with the questions of being or nature, man, God, and the world or cosmos. Although the older philosophical divisions have been somewhat modified with recent investigations by the exact sciences, the main divisions within Metaphysics remain the same."

A Proposed Program Of Junior Church Camping With An Evangelistic Emphasis, Alfred Bohr

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

The church carries on its program of Christian Education in many ways. Some of these ways have been used by the church for centuries, but many new and more effective ways are constantly being developed to help the church carry on its vital ministry. One of these relatively new movements upon the stage of church hi story is the organized camping movement. This agency is rapidly becoming one of the church's moat effective means of Christian Education. Many church leaders are agreeing that •ta few weeks spent in a well-organized summer camp might be of more value educationally than a. …

The Function Of The Director Of Christian Education In Relation To Management Of Personnel, Harold W. Edmonds

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

During the past few years, the writer has become interested in the field of Christian Education. It has been observed that far too often, there are pastors and church leaders frustrated because of an inability to present the message of the Gospel effectively. It has been the conviction of this writer as he has worked with personnel as a floor manager in a department store, and later as a pastor in a small church, that any measure of human success comes as a result of working through individuals. With this in mind, the writer has endeavored to determine to what …
