The Doctrine Of The Two-Natures Of Christ: A Historical And Critical Analysis, Amos Yong

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

During the spring term of 1991 , while studying the development of Christian thought in the modern period under Dr . W. Stanley Johnson , I began research for my M.A. thesis on the Christology of Oneness Pentecostalism following a suggestion by Dr . Susie Stanley made in light of my background as a Pentecostal. Almost immediately , I came upon the definitive work of David Reed , "The Origins and Development of the Theology of Oneness Pentecostalism in the United States'' (Ph.d Diss. , Boston University , 1978), where in he identified Oneness Christology as primarily Nestorian in character …

HOW THE COURSE WAS WRITTEN

The beginning point for me in writing this course was the interest and knowledge given to me from the times I watched my father write other extension courses. After classroom as well as independent study at W.E.S. in the area of Theological Education by Extension, , I became interested in the direct application of the material learned through the teaching of Extension courses in Peru. Northwest Yearly of Friends Mission in Bolivia and Peru has been involved in TEE since the first days of its conception in the early 60's. There is currently a curriculum …

A Church Planting Plan For The Northwest District Of The Wesleyan Church, Roger Kenneth Blake May 1985

A Church Planting Plan For The Northwest District Of The Wesleyan Church, Roger Kenneth Blake

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Excerpt: "A beautiful and unusually dry Oregon spring has allowed me to rototill my garden plot very early. With the ground free of weeds and finely pulverized, it was ready to be planted. Since it was still so early, my first decision was to wait. A later date would perhaps protect my garden from a hard killing frost. Then a thought crossed my mind. With this beautiful weather and the moisture that is sure to come, something will grow in my garden. If I do no t plant seeds that will produce a luscious vegetable crop, nature will sprout the …

Philippians: Paul's Handbook On Conflict Management, Mark Kelley Apr 1985

Philippians: Paul's Handbook On Conflict Management, Mark Kelley

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Much of my life has been devoted to bringing together people and concepts which did not seem to belong together. In my high school days, I delighted in hosting parties to which I intentionally invited students from very different social groups. As a pastor, I have worked hard to bring the various cliques of small churches together in a sense of: unity. As a seminary student, I have striven to combine the highest academic standards with a concern for the relevance of each academic activity to the every-day pastorate.

This thesis is a further step towards developing a minstry of …

A Statistical Analysis And Comparison Of My Pastoral Ministry In The Light Of Church Growth Principles From Acts And Current Literature, James Robert Hall Apr 1985

A Statistical Analysis And Comparison Of My Pastoral Ministry In The Light Of Church Growth Principles From Acts And Current Literature, James Robert Hall

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

The purpose of this study was to analyze my ministry in four churches in order to discover its strengths and weaknesses. It was believed that an understanding of the strengths and weaknesses evident through my ministry would enable corrective and supplemental measures to be taken.

The reason this study was undertaken was because of the fact that. in some church settings certain ministry methods worked. Then again, in other church settings, the same or similar methods did not seem to work. The questions: "Why did it work there?", and •why did it not work somewhere else?", were the motivating factors …

Handbook For Police Chaplains, James Albert Stegman May 1984

Handbook For Police Chaplains, James Albert Stegman

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Excerpt: "The Handbook grew out of the need to bring together information helpful to the organization and operation of a police chaplaincy . Many police agencies employ the services of a chaplain, either volunteer, full- time, or a combination of both. Few police agencies have a well documented description of how the police chaplain is to function in relation to the police organization ."

The Elements Of Wisdom Literature In The Messianic King Prophecy Of The First Isaiah Centered On Isa. 9:2-7; 11:1-9, Yen Pyo Hong May 1984

The Elements Of Wisdom Literature In The Messianic King Prophecy Of The First Isaiah Centered On Isa. 9:2-7; 11:1-9, Yen Pyo Hong

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Excerpt: "The prophecies of Isaiah are among the most important theological expressions in the Bible, and the Messianic oracle is one of those which has the most important values in the Old Testament.

The study of the Messianic idea has been done by many scholars, and our knowledge about the character of Isaiah's Messiah regarded it as eschatological. 1 But, even though Isaiah's Messianic king of pre-exilic period could be connected to the eschatological Messiah of later Judaism, it is too early to call him the eschatological being.

This research will confine its concern to the character of the Messiah …

An Analytical Study Of Four Churches In The Light Of The Seven Vital Signs Of A Healthy Church With A Tentative Application To Lynwood Friends Church, Glenn K. Armstrong May 1984

An Analytical Study Of Four Churches In The Light Of The Seven Vital Signs Of A Healthy Church With A Tentative Application To Lynwood Friends Church, Glenn K. Armstrong

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

It was at a church growth conference with Dr. Medford H. Jones that pastors of Northwest Yearly Meeting of Friends Church began giving serious thought to planting and developing large Friends churches in the Northwest. Jones spoke of other passive or plateaued churches, which became growing, dynamic churches. New hope was conceived for Friends.

Since that first conference, many seminars and church conferences have been held, books have been read and papers have been studied. Churches do not grow simply through prayer, faith and hard work. Through research, study and experience, it has been determined that there are distinct patterns …

A Curriculum Resource Text For The Alcohol Unit In Public And Private Schools, Lester A. Wetzstein May 1984

A Curriculum Resource Text For The Alcohol Unit In Public And Private Schools, Lester A. Wetzstein

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

The absolute worth of a human life and the social order in which that life finds identity and expression provide the base for an initiative to pursue the development of life's highest potential with assurance in the future that corning generations may expect the same opportunity. The manifold evidences graphically documented relative to man's inhumanity to man in our present age clearly invoke a spirit of urgency for realistic solutions now and not some far distant time.

The Life And Ministry Of Carrie Judd Montgomery, Daniel E. Albrecht May 1984

The Life And Ministry Of Carrie Judd Montgomery, Daniel E. Albrecht

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

If ever there was a woman whose life reflected the dynamic forces within key American religous movements of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Carrie Judd Montgomery was that woman. Before she died she participated in the rise and development of holiness, faith-healing, Christian and Missionary Alliance, and pentecostal movements. The thread of her life was interwoven into the living tapestry of these movements. A leader in her own right, she rubbed elbows with other prominent religious spokesmen of the day, such as A.B. Simpson, A.J. Gordon, Charles Cullis, W.E. Boardman, Aimee Simple McPherson, Smith Wigglesworth, Robert Craig, J.R. …

Workbook Section To Accompany A Topical Plan For Conducting Marriage And Parenting Seminars For Couples, John R. Jamison

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Excerpt: "Some groups involved in advocating male-female equality go so far as to argue that there are virtually no real biological differences between the sexes other than the reproductive systems. They hold that any substantial differences in sexual, social, or psychological responses are a result of conditioning differences for boys and girls. What is your opinion?"

A Topical Plan For Conducting Marriage And Parenting Seminars For Couples, John R. Jamison Apr 1984

A Topical Plan For Conducting Marriage And Parenting Seminars For Couples, John R. Jamison

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Excerpt: "To write about marriage and parenting these days seems quite presumptuous. After all, there is a plentiful supply of informative books, pamphlets, periodicals, films, filmstrips and tapes. How do I know this? Personal visits were made to several Christian book stores, public libraries, college and seminary libraries. Then, close examination was made of book catalogs, the Minister's Library (and supplements),! the 1981-82 Current Christian Books, film and filmstrips catalogs, and tape catalogs. Why, then, do a writing project in a field already "crammed" with good material ?"

A Working Model For The Rehabilitation Of Juvenile Delinquents, Harvey C. Klapstein Oct 1983

A Working Model For The Rehabilitation Of Juvenile Delinquents, Harvey C. Klapstein

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

During the last decade, institutional treatment of delinquents has shifted decidedly toward community based programs designed around a family unit model. Throughout the country, various state and local agencies have acquired large, older homes in well-established neighborhoods and turned them into residences for delinquent adolescents. These homes are similar to half-way houses in their size and operation. House parents, usually a young married couple, live in the house and provide supervision for five or ten juveniles. During the day, these residents either go to school or work, and during the evening they engage in various recreational and school related activities. …
