The Viewer, Savannah L. Hart Apr 2018

The Viewer, Savannah L. Hart

Cedarville Review

The assignment was to make a piece fully based on color. I knew right away that I wanted my viewers to somehow wear color, be bathed in it, not just observe it. The viewer does not know what the piece is or how to interact with it until instructed to insert their hand and squeeze the overhead forms at their choosing.

The piece became a way to honor my fellow creatives: whenever my hands look like this, it is because I have been creating. My art classmates were my first participants, and I got to dress their hands in this …

At The Altar Of The Lord, Patrick Devine Apr 2017

At The Altar Of The Lord, Patrick Devine

Cedarville Review

8" x 10"

Etching and Aquatint

Psalm 84:3 says "Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, at your altars, O LORD of hosts, my King and my God." Blessed are those who dwell in the house of the Lord. The psalmist writes that he would rather be a lowly gatekeeper of the house of God than dwell in the tents of the wicked. How lovely is the Lord Almighty's dwelling place. The Gospel is a welcome source of comfort for the afflicted, and my hope is for everyone …

Feminist Theory And Technical Communication, Olivia Duffus

Channels: Where Disciplines Meet

This essay explores feminism, socially-constructed norms, and the relationship between feminism and technical communication. It argues that undergraduate technical communication programs should include courses that study feminist history and theories as related to the field, claiming that studying feminist theory will improve user-centered design and broaden students' spheres of influence as professionals.

Casting The Bigger Shadow: The Methods And Business Of Petrucci Vs. Attaingnant, Sean A. Kisch Sep 2016

Casting The Bigger Shadow: The Methods And Business Of Petrucci Vs. Attaingnant, Sean A. Kisch

Musical Offerings

The music printing of Ottaviano Petrucci has been largely regarded by historians to be the most elegant and advanced form of music publishing in the Renaissance, while printers such as Pierre Attaingnant are only given an obligatory nod. Through historical research and a study of primary sources such as line-cut facsimiles, I sought to answer the question, how did the triple impression and single impression methods of printing develop, and is one superior to the other? While Petrucci’s triple impression method produced cleaner and more connected staves, a significant number of problems resulted, including pitch accuracy and cost efficiency. Attaingnant’s …

My Winter, Christa Cape Apr 2016

My Winter, Christa Cape

Cedarville Review

This is a self-reflection piece about the dual reality of being in a place in life that feels cold and barren, yet knowing there is always an eternal hope of renewal. Because of the hope that exists in Christ, we are joyful even through pain, just as winter always looks ahead to spring.

Steadfast (Mount Chocorua Through The Seasons), Christa Cape Apr 2016

Steadfast (Mount Chocorua Through The Seasons), Christa Cape

Cedarville Review

This piece is a literal representation of the four seasons as seen in nature. The three-dimensional material across the bottom of the piece invokes a sense of movement--the constant push and pull of the seasonal changes. This piece brings to mind the idea of changing throughout life, while at the same time remaining the same.
