After World War II, Japan reinvented itself as a shipbuilding powerhouse and began its rapid ascent in the global economy. Its expansion strategy integrated raw material procurement, the redesign of global transportation infrastructure, and domestic industrialization. In this authoritative and engaging study, Stephen G. The Front Line Of Social Capital Creation – A Natural Experiment In Symbolic Interaction, Roger Patulny, Peter Siminski, Silvia Mendolia

This paper offers theoretical and empirical contributions to understanding the micro-sociological processes behind the creation of social capital. Theoretically, we argue that the emotional and shared experience of participating in symbolic interaction rituals may affect social capital in four different ways, via: (i) a 'citizenship' effect, connecting participants symbolically to the broader, civic society; (ii) a 'supportive' effect, bonding participants with each other; (iii) an exclusive 'tribal' effect, which crowds-out connections with other groups and the wider society; and (iv) an 'atomising' effect, whereby intense experiences create mental health problems that damage social capital. The Isle Royal National Park Artists-in-Residency Program is a national juried competition for artists of any medium to spend two or three weeks on the Island in the historic Dassler family cabin with accommodations provided by the Park, pursuing their creative endeavor. "Abandoned Harbor" a 16x20 digital inkjet print from the series "Vanishing Points" placed in the national competition "Creative Images Fine Art Photography" and will be exhibitied in the Artsgarden in Indianapolis, Indiana for the month of November. The series, "Vanishing Points" documents the landscape of abandoned mines in Michigan's Upper Peninsula as they appear today with hand-built pinhole and zoneplate cameras.
