Carbon Nanotubes Animated, Nicholas Onyemeke
Carbon Nanotubes Animated, Nicholas Onyemeke
Chemistry Summer Fellows
In this project, I implemented the knowledge about carbon nanotubes into an animated short. The animated short is meant to simplify the research so that anyone can understand regardless of their background in science. The research I did was on how nanotubes can be used in the medical field as a measure to inhibit bacteria growth. A nanotube dye solution was synthesized to inoculate bacteria along with an antibiotic solution with the nanotubes. This was done to observe how well the nanotubes can inhibit bacteria growth without the need for a drug compared to the effectiveness when it has a …
Developing A Method To Study To Examine Lookism On Social Media, Shana Ramnarain, Alyssa Dana Adomaitis
Developing A Method To Study To Examine Lookism On Social Media, Shana Ramnarain, Alyssa Dana Adomaitis
Publications and Research
“Lookism” is a term to describe appearance discrimination or “the practice of discrimination on the basis of physical appearance in the workplace” (Ghodrati, Joorabchi, & Muati, 2015, p.1). In popular literature, it has been called “beauty prejudice” (Etcoff, 1999, p. 1). The notion that a pleasing appearance results in favorable outcomes (e.g., higher wages, promotions) from others is not necessarily new, as literature on physical attractiveness is rather extensive. The Washington Post Magazine first used the term “lookism” in 1978 (e.g., Ayto, 1999), however, the term “lookism” was first recognized as a form of discrimination by authors of the Oxford …

Virginia’S Lost History: Analyzing Delisted Historical Sites For Future Preservation Efforts, Caleigh Waddell
Spring Showcase for Research and Creative Inquiry
Important historical sites typically get entered into the Virginia Historic Registry, and currently, there are over 3,100 locally and/or federally registered places. 58 sites have been delisted - this project attempts to answer questions regarding why they were removed as they spatially relate to one another and the state regions they lie in. This will identify common problems to historic sites, thus guiding solutions for future preservation.

La Virtud Está En El Medio: Observaciones Sobre La Pronunciación De La /S/ En El Español Dominicano, Orlando Alba
Faculty Publications

Web Resources for Teaching Women's History Month
This PowerPoint preserves the presentation at CORE Academy, 2015. All links have been updated to 2023 addresses, or, in a few cases, de-linked. While there is much to add with regard to more recent developments in the teaching of women's history and web resources, this presentation preserves some of the teaching approaches and particular specialties of my decades of teaching, primarily through Women's Literature classes, but also in specialties that stressed online supplements to textbooks and the expanding canon in American and English Literature. All images are taken from freely accessible sites on …

This is a brief overview of how I continue to be engaged with research on Elizabeth Robins in the context of other women writers, post-retirement. The presentation's subtitle might be phrased as "From my study of the one-woman show in graduate school to creative and poetic approaches as emerita researcher." I maintain the Elizabeth Robins Web at JSU and have presented two papers (virtually at recent SAMLA conferences) since leaving the classroom. I outline several of my creative approaches to women's biography through my academic career. I am particularly interested in the format of several poetry collections that piece together …
