Women In Warfare: Spanish Christian Soldiers As Rapists In Early Modern Romances, Stacey L. Parker Aronson Jan 2017

Women In Warfare: Spanish Christian Soldiers As Rapists In Early Modern Romances, Stacey L. Parker Aronson

Spanish Publications

The omnipresence of military conflict brings many hardships and dangers for women in Early Modern Europe. In the socio-historical reality of military skirmishes since time immemorial, the rape of the female (and male) occupants of conquered territory was as ubiquitous and as opportunistic an act as one could imagine by which to brutalize and demean the populace. I will analyze two romances—“Romance cuarto. De cómo don Rodrigo de Vivar mató á dos moros que forzaban una dama mora y la rescató” and “Soldados forzadores”—both of which describe the rape of women by Spanish Christian soldiers. While Spanish Christian soldiers might …

Cuerpos Para Tocar: El Uso De La Imagen En La Representación De La Corporalidad Femenina Y La Política En La Ficción De María Teresa Andruetto, Karina Elizabeth Vázquez

Latin American, Latino and Iberian Studies Faculty Publications

"Sin Decidirlo Me Volví Distinta": Gender, Deception And Development In Angeles Mastretta's ArráNcame La Vida, Luisa Samaniego Feb 1997

"Sin Decidirlo Me Volví Distinta": Gender, Deception And Development In Angeles Mastretta's ArráNcame La Vida, Luisa Samaniego

Dissertations and Theses

With this research I locate Angeles Mastretta's novel Arráncame la vida in the Bildungsroman genre, examine the particular forces influencing the protagonist's development and gain insight into her process of identity formation. This modern Bildungsroman portrays the fate of a woman in the male dominated world of post-revolutionary Mexico. I analyze how class, gender, historical moment, psychological and cultural influences are woven into the intriguing formation of the heroine, Catalina, variously constraining or propelling her forward in her quest for development.

I argue that the heroine transcends the limiting factors in her patriarchal environment, struggling against culturally sanctioned deception, confining …

The Female Identity In Rosario Ferrâe’S Papeles De Pandora, Marcie Lynn Pratt

To demonstrate Ferre's deconstruction and (re)construction of the female identity, This study focuses on Ferre's use ofrecurring motifs such as: …

Estereotipos Femininos Y Masculinos En Los Pazos De Ulloa Y La Regenta, Ema Luisa Flynn De Garcia Jan 1994

Estereotipos Femininos Y Masculinos En Los Pazos De Ulloa Y La Regenta, Ema Luisa Flynn De Garcia

Theses : Honours

The purpose of this thesis is to find possible feminine stereotypes in two XIX century Spanish novels, Los Pazos de Ulloa, written by Emilia Pardo Bazan, and La Regenta by Leopolda Alas "Ciarin", both considered realist or naturalists works of fiction. The analysis of the two novels is based on works with feminist perspectives regarding the way women are portrayed in fiction. The belated flowering of the Spanish realist and the naturalist novel came about due to the state Spain was in at the time in question. There was no industrial revolution in Spain as in other neighbouring countries and …
