A Comparison Of Two Medieval Story-Tellers : Geoffrey Chaucer And John Gower, Margaret Joan Byerly
A Comparison Of Two Medieval Story-Tellers : Geoffrey Chaucer And John Gower, Margaret Joan Byerly
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study is to compare the narrative and framing techniques used by Geoffrey Chaucer and John Gower. These authors were selected for several reasons. Being contemporaries, they lived through the days of the reign of Richard II, his deposition, and the accession of Henry IV. This was a time change: the age of chivalry and true knighthood was ending; the middle class was establishing commerce, towns, guilds; openly and violently the peasants were beginning to reject their servile positions; the corruption within the organized church was being publicly exposed, and efforts, believed heretical by some, were being …
The Foreign Policy Of Harry S. Truman, Patricia Reagan Slater
The Foreign Policy Of Harry S. Truman, Patricia Reagan Slater
Graduate Thesis Collection
Without knowing it, a professor of mine, Dr. Emma Lou Thornbrough, stimulated my interest in President Truman when she stated in a freshman history course that Harry S. Truman would go down in history as one of the greatest American Presidents if not the greatest because of his ingenuity in foreign policy. The exact purporse of this paper is to examine these programs.

Little is known about the personal life of Charles M. Weber whom Erin G. Gudde calls "next to Sutter the most notable German pioneer during the transition period of California history".

A Study Of The Sin And Death Of Moses In Biblical Literature, Harry E. Woodall
A Study Of The Sin And Death Of Moses In Biblical Literature, Harry E. Woodall
OBU Graduate Theses
Recently Dr. Clyde T. Francisco, who is professor of Old Testament interpretation at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, suggested that one of the great mysteries of the Bible is contained in the sin and death of Moses. Inquiry into the subject has validated his statement, for the interpretation of Moses' sin and death has been subject to many theories and speculations. The following Biblical passages are concerned with the sin and death of Moses: Numbers 20:1-13; 22-29; 27:12-14; Deuteronomy 1:35-40; 3:23-29; 4:21-24; 32:48-52; 34:1-7. Other related Biblical passages include Psalm 106:32-33, ·Mark 9:2-13 and synoptic parallels including Matthew 17: 1-13 and …
The United States And African Nationalism In British East Africa Since 1945, Clarence A. Allison
The United States And African Nationalism In British East Africa Since 1945, Clarence A. Allison
OBU Graduate Theses
World War II brought about a realignment of the power structure among the nations of the world. The primary conflict of interest developed between Russian and the Western nations, with the United States predominant among them.
Through the leverage afforded by the East-West conflict, African nations were able to exert enough force to dislodge the colonial powers which had ruled them for nearly a century.
Early efforts to unite the African people were carried out in the United States and other Western nations, with American Negroes leading the drive. Among these men were W.E.B. DuBois and Marcus Garvey.
The United …

Factors In The Acceptance And Adoption Of Family Home Evening In The Lds Church: A Study Of Planned Change, Robert Ernest Larson
Factors In The Acceptance And Adoption Of Family Home Evening In The Lds Church: A Study Of Planned Change, Robert Ernest Larson
Theses and Dissertations
In an effort to cope with forces which would remove the home from its place of influence, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recently inaugurated the Family Home Evening Program. Emerging out of a fifty year history of efforts to institute the home evening practice, it is one of the most systematic and comprehensive efforts to date to implement change within the structure of its member families.
Such a deliberate and predetermined effort toward improving the family system constitutes what applied social scientists call "planned change." Home evening, when adopted, has many of the elements of a behavior …
An Analysis Of The 1964 Idaho Second Congressional District Election Campaign, Dean Maurice Hansen
An Analysis Of The 1964 Idaho Second Congressional District Election Campaign, Dean Maurice Hansen
Theses and Dissertations
After having been elected to Congress from Idaho's Second Congressional District in 1960 by a record vote, and re-elected in 1962, Democrat Ralph Harding was defeated in 1964 by Republican George Hansen in the face of a national Democratic landslide. The objective of this thesis was to analyze the Harding-Hanson contest and attempt to identify the factors which produced the Hansen victory. The methodology employed in this analysis included library research, a comprehensive survey of newspapers serving the Second District which covered the congressional race, correspondence and interviews with candidates, campaign managers and other involved individuals and groups, a grass-roots …

Constitutional Rights And The Mormon Appeals For National Redress Of The Missouri Grievances, Lynn D. Stewart
Theses and Dissertations
This study attempts to trace the efforts of the Mormon people to obtain redress from the national government for the losses of life and property which they had suffered and the hardships which they had endured while residing in the state of Missouri during the 1830's. The Mormon appeals to Congress and the President are considered and an evaluation is made of the Mormon view of the national government's responsibility for the protection of individual rights.
