Ua3/8/6 Report Of The Task-Force On Part-Time Faculty, Wku President's Office-Meredith
WKU Archives Records
During the 1991 fall semester, President Thomas Meredith appointed a Task Force on Part-Time Faculty at WKU. He requested that the task force conduct a study and make recommendations to the university regarding such issues as part-time faculty compensation and benefits, rates of usage, quality of instruction, orientation and evaluation and administration and budgeting. The study was stimulated, in part, by the fact that the university has in recent years reached historic highs in the use of part-time faculty.

The Sacred And The Secular: Exploring Contemporary Meanings And Values For Religious Buildings In Singapore, Lily Kong
Research Collection School of Social Sciences
The study of human environmental experiences has engaged a range of disciplinary attention, with work deriving chiefly from environmental psychologists and geographers. However, most research has focused on the sensory aspects of environmental experience, while the intangible, immeasurable experiences of environments have been somewhat neglected. Certainly, the meanings and values that are invested in places, which form part of the interaction between humans and environments, have not been sufficiently researched. My intention in this paper is to address one aspect of this silence, namely the ways in which humans experience their religious environments, and more particularly, the symbolic meanings and …
Public Life And Hostility To Religion, Frederick Mark Gedicks
Public Life And Hostility To Religion, Frederick Mark Gedicks
Faculty Scholarship
Many who value the contributions of religion to American life have contended that American public life is hostile to religion. They perceive many of the Supreme Court's Religion Clause opinions as hostile to religion, and circulate anecdotes about the antireligious hostility of public life. Studies also suggest that some of the principle actors in American public life systematically marginalize religious viewpoints relative to secular ones. Nevertheless, others are baffled by the suggestion that public life discriminates against religion. These people note that religion is deeply (if controversially) involved in much of contemporary American politics, and dismiss anecdotes about such hostility …

Publications and Research
Of all the currents of change that have swept the humanities during the last half-century, the most far-reaching revolve around language. Philosophy, history, and literary criticism, among other language-based disciplines, have developed what is often presented as a largely unprecedented self-consciousness about representation. The message to scholars in nonlanguage-based disciplines is clear: to be taken seriously, one can no longer view language as a transparent window to an objective reality but must confront the foundational political and ideological baggage of the medium itself, as well as its constant slippage in the hands of the producer.

Contemporary Christian Music: Where Rock Meets Religion, Jay R. Howard
Scholarship and Professional Work - LAS
...In the midst of this controversial relationship between rock music and religious messages, and as a response to a feeling of being "locked out" of the secular music industry, there has been a burgeoning Christian recording industry using rock music, known as Contemporary Christian Music (CCM). CCM involves the pairing of a Gospel message or Christian worldview with popular forms of rock music...
