On Spirituality... And Human Sexuality, Paul N. Anderson Jan 1992

On Spirituality... And Human Sexuality, Paul N. Anderson

Faculty Publications - George Fox School of Theology

Excerpt: "Spirituality and sexuality. An unlikely coupling. Many Christians assume that, like oil and water, the two simply do not mix. And yet, spirituality and sexuality occupy the most personal and intimate parts of our beings, and this is why they deserve to be addressed together instead of apart."

On Asking Better Questions... And Finding Better Answers, Paul N. Anderson Jan 1992

On Asking Better Questions... And Finding Better Answers, Paul N. Anderson

Faculty Publications - George Fox School of Theology

Excerpt: "Asking better questions leads to better answers. A troublesome fact about the world Christian movement is that since the fourth century A.D., Christians have been divided on matters of war and peace. In fact, in the two World Wars of this century, more Christians were killed by Christians than had been killed in all the wars of the last two millennia combined. This is a troubling fact, to say the least, and a major contributor to the rejection of Christianity, from what I am told by non-Christians. So how did things come to be this way?"

"For This I Was Born..." Jesus, Paul N. Anderson Jan 1992

"For This I Was Born..." Jesus, Paul N. Anderson

Faculty Publications - George Fox School of Theology

Excerpt: "Throughout the year, but especially at Christmas, we celebrate the coming of Christ to the world God loves. Familiar carols ring out the festive theme- "Joy to the World! The Lord is come ... ." And seasonal memories invade our minds spontaneously. But have we considered recently why Jesus came, and thus the meaning of the event we celebrate?"

The Great Commission In Quadriphonic Sound, Paul N. Anderson Jan 1992

The Great Commission In Quadriphonic Sound, Paul N. Anderson

Faculty Publications - George Fox School of Theology

As we explore the similarities and differences between the four Gospels in the freshman Bible class I teach, just about every semester one of my students will ask, 'Why is the 'Great Commission' mentioned in all four Gospels?" Normally in the charts we use, when the same miracle or teaching is included in more than one Gospel, it appears in a list other than those containing material unique to a particular Gospel. But not so with the Great Commission. It occurs within each of the four Gospels-and yet in fascinating, different ways.
