This is the program from the Fall 2017 Steel Bands concert directed by Dr. Ryan Lewis and featuring Tiger Steel and Pan Jouvet. Tiger Steel, the OBU steel drum ensemble, specializes in the performance of calypso and soca music from the Caribbean nations of Trinidad and Tobago—the birthplace of steel drums—but also performs a wide variety of styles from jazz, pop, and rock to classical, funk, and Latin. Pan Jouvet, the beginning steel drum ensemble, is open to all OBU students—no audition or musical experience is necessary. Ouachita Baptist University will host Tiger Steel, the university’s steel drum ensemble, in concert in Mabee Fine Arts Center’s McBeth Recital Hall on Monday, May 1, at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.

Ouachita Baptist University’s Division of Music will host percussionist Richard Henson, Jr. in concert on Monday, Feb. 27, at 7:30 p.m. The concert, which is free and open to the public, will be held in Mabee Fine Arts Center’s W. Francis McBeth Recital Hall on the Ouachita campus. It will feature world percussion and hand drums from around the globe.
