Women And Worship Ministry: Contemporary Opportunities And Challenges, Nicole Johnson
Women And Worship Ministry: Contemporary Opportunities And Challenges, Nicole Johnson
B.A. in Music Senior Capstone Projects
As a female, I am going to be going into a field of work that seems to be struggling with the transition between the traditional views of "men only" on church staff to allowing women on church's staff. I know that as I enter the world looking for a job in a church, I may face multiple obstacles that make it difficult for me as a female to find one. I was hoping that this research/study will assist me in my future job applications, and help others when looking for a job as well.
I approached dealing with this problem …

Porgy And Bess: A Racial Paradox, Carolyn Deemer
Porgy And Bess: A Racial Paradox, Carolyn Deemer
B.A. in Music Senior Capstone Projects
This project examines the racial implications of George Gershwin‟s folk opera Porgy and Bess. This study specifically addresses the question: Did Porgy and Bess have a positive or negative impact on race relations between the African-American and white communities? To answer that question, this I have examined the perceptions that various groups expressed upon viewing the opera. In my research, I have studied the responses from black and white society in the United States, as well as the intentions of Gershwin himself. I discuss these responses in terms of the opera‟s immediate reception, through primary source documents, newspaper articles, and …
Conservative Radical: Martin Luther’S Influence On Congregational Singing, Jonathan Knight
Conservative Radical: Martin Luther’S Influence On Congregational Singing, Jonathan Knight
B.A. in Music Senior Capstone Projects
Martin Luther played an influential role in the transition from the priest-dominated Catholic worship to congregationally accessible evangelical services. This study demonstrates that, though his musical reforms were not dramatic, they were intentional and effective. Luther’s understanding of music theologically, theoretically, and practically enabled him to effectively utilize available musical resources to make music increasingly accessible, for the purpose of teaching the Word of God. Through Luther’s hymns, people began proclaiming the Word of God musically. Through liturgical reform, Luther provided congregations with a framework through which to incorporate congregational song in the liturgy. Through music education, Luther increased musical …
Music As Therapy: Treating The Effects Of Alzheimer’S Disease, Christina Sidaras
Music As Therapy: Treating The Effects Of Alzheimer’S Disease, Christina Sidaras
B.A. in Music Senior Capstone Projects
This senior project deals with music therapy and methods used especially with Alzheimer’s patients. Topics concerning music therapy include definitions of music therapy, the history of music therapy, and the training necessary to become a licensed music therapist. The research includes general information concerning Alzheimer’s disease as well as its history and symptoms. In addition to conducting research, the music therapy methods were employed with Alzheimer’s patients at the Brookhaven Retirement Community’s Alzheimer’s Unit in Brookville, Ohio. With the guidance of research, professional music therapists, and medical personnel, positive feedback was observed in the patients’ responses.
